Note: This film is available as part of
Al Adamson: The Masterpiece Collection.
Disc Thirteen of The Masterpiece Collection offers what is arguably a strange grab bag of a triple feature, with one fairly harmless sex
comedy, one slightly more salacious but still harmless sex comedy musical, and more of a straight out supernatural horror outing.
Nurse Sherri is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Severin Films with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1.85:1. This bears the Vinegar Syndrome logo at the end of the film, but this is reportedly a new scan by Severin of the so-called "Exploitation Cut" offered by Vinegar Syndrome as a bonus on their release. One way or the other, I'm considerably less pleased with the look of this than Brian was. This is another very badly faded element that has a number of signs of age, including really noticeable wobble during the credits. Outdoor material tends to offer a pretty good looking damage, albeit one still obviously suffering from pretty severe fading. Grain can look pretty noisy, especially against stark white hospital backgrounds. The special effects of the "possession" scene are kind of comical, but interestingly right after that sequence there's a brief second or two where the palette warms considerably and saturation also improves. There are several pretty significant scratches, including several long parallel yellow ones.
Nurse Sherri features a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono track that exhibits some of the same sibilance that Brian noted in his review. The track can sound just a tad bright in the upper registers, though dialogue is presented very cleanly. This is another Adamson film without an official music credit, but the theme sounds suspiciously similar to William Lava's work in Dracula vs. Frankenstein.
Nurse Sherri has an interesting premise and actually manages to deliver at least a little angst. This "spiced up" version may not add that much to the mix other than patented Adamson conceits like a lesbian sexual encounter. Video is pretty badly faded and aged, and audio, while better, also has some issues.
