Nightmare Alley 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman March 22, 2022

Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive UHD SteelBook release for the 2021 Guillermo del Toro film 'Nightmare Alley.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Nightmare Alley 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  n/a of 5

This is a dark, noir-inspired film and it earns a dark, noir-inspired SteelBook. Cooper's Stanton Carlisle is on the front, facing forward, a hat on his head and much of his face bathed in shadow, save for a small strip across the cheek. The film's title is subtly visible in a dark copper color across the top, while eerie carnival advertisements are barely visible behind. The rear panel offers more macabre content, this time with demons and the seven deadly sins written in barely visible copper within shadow at the top right.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a number of staggered, macabre cards which are also printed on the Blu-ray disc.

Nightmare Alley 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

"Dark" and "macabre" are certainly apt descriptors of this SteelBook, and of course those fit the film, too. This is a very well-done presentation that suits the film well. Fans are going to be pleased with the minimalist, and stylistically appropriate, SteelBook presentation.
