Since everything these days is woven into the world of comic book heroes, “Owl Power” follows trends, exploring the “superpowers” of these secretive birds, on a quest to share significant facts about the stars of the show. The omnipresent bird, found in every continent except for Antarctica, makes for a fascinating subject, with the daily life of the average owl filled with sophisticated hunting duties, using natural skills to attack prey and keep safe as new generations are nurtured.
The AVC encoded image (1.78:1 aspect ratio) presentation falls in line with previous "Nature" documentaries, only with a slight increase of banding, which is visible throughout the viewing experience. The HD-shot program does deliver an acceptable range of fine detail, capturing textures on feathers and environments, while graphics remain sharp and inviting. Colors are natural with secure balance. Delineation is satisfactory, never losing frame information to solid blacks.
The 5.1 Dolby Digital track offers a straightforward design without much in the way of flourishes. Surrounds are barely employed, only pushing out for nature atmospherics. Narration is secure and deep, commanding the listening experience. Sound effects, including tech chirps and sweetened animals behaviors, are pronounced. Scoring is simple and supportive, rarely displaying authority.

Sticking to a tone of awe to capture the natural majesty of the birds, "Owl Power" manages to communicate the special nature of the stars, focusing on their razor-sharp senses, also explaining exactly what occurs under layers of feathers when owls rotate their necks 270 degrees. Lloyd is an especially animated addition to the show, happily sharing his love for the creature with the audience. "Owl Power" avoids the routine of mating and death to concentrate on territorial specifics, making it more of a science special than a purely behavioral endeavor, achieving a comfortable understanding of natural owl abilities.
