Most adult films are created to offer an escape. It’s usually fantasy put on screen for audience enjoyment, delivering a heightened sense of carnality for cheap thrills and to reach deeper desires. 1982’s “Nasty Nurses” has a title typical of the industry, offering a blunt name for what’s intended to be erotic entertainment. However, co-writer/director Paul Vatelli is dealing with a recession-era America at the time of production, and he’s not in the mood for fun and games. He aims for a touch of reality to the endeavor, bringing viewers into a hospital that’s struggling with financial issues and staffing, unsure if there’s even going to be a medical center around as funding woes increase. “Nasty Nurses” isn’t a cold slap viewing experience, but it tries to be more dramatic than expected, poking around relationship and business woes while Vatelli delivers the usual stops in adult cinema highlights.

The image presentation (1.85:1 aspect ratio) for "Nasty Nurses" is listed as "newly scanned and restored in 2K" from its "35mm original camera negative." It's a slightly softer examination of frame elements, but detail remains intact. Skin particular are open for examination, along with costuming as the characters slip in and out of hospital uniforms. Building interiors are decently dimensional, visiting various rooms and hallways. A few establishing shots of the hospital deliver depth. Color is capable, managing the whites and reds of clothing and decoration. Hair color is distinct, and period hues are intact with domestic events. Skin tones are natural. Delineation is satisfactory. Grain is nicely resolved. Age is present, with some wear and tear visible.

The 2.0 DTS-HD MA mix offers a straightforward understanding of "Nasty Nurses," with decent dialogue exchanges handling a variety of performance choices and enthusiasm. Music supports with an acceptable synth sound, though the main title tune seems to be dealing with age, offering heavier, unsteady bass.

"Nasty Nurse" is an odd viewing experience. It looks to respect the struggles of life and death during an average day at a hospital, but it's also cheeky in many ways, especially when it walks away from the central crisis to watch employees engage in sexual antics, while Dr. Michelle is quick to lose her professional integrity with Jack, revealing more to their relationship. Ultimately, the feature is about Dr. Rob and his terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day, faced with employment opportunities and difficulties, while his mistress is demanding answers about their future, and his wife wants to stay married. The picture isn't an exhausting psychological experience, but it tries to be more substantial, which is appealing, also bringing out some decent acting from most of the cast, who attempt to inhabit needy people to the best of their ability. "Nasty Nurses" still has its adult cinema moments, but this is no naughty romp, making some effort to address health care issues and personal concerns.
