Nasty Nurses Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Brian Orndorf May 30, 2026

Most adult films are created to offer an escape. It’s usually fantasy put on screen for audience enjoyment, delivering a heightened sense of carnality for cheap thrills and to reach deeper desires. 1982’s “Nasty Nurses” has a title typical of the industry, offering a blunt name for what’s intended to be erotic entertainment. However, co-writer/director Paul Vatelli is dealing with a recession-era America at the time of production, and he’s not in the mood for fun and games. He aims for a touch of reality to the endeavor, bringing viewers into a hospital that’s struggling with financial issues and staffing, unsure if there’s even going to be a medical center around as funding woes increase. “Nasty Nurses” isn’t a cold slap viewing experience, but it tries to be more dramatic than expected, poking around relationship and business woes while Vatelli delivers the usual stops in adult cinema highlights.

Lakeview Community Medical Center is going through a rough time. Administrator Warner (Pat Manning) is trying to keep the hospital open, struggling with financial issues while making tough budget decisions that are unpopular with the staff. Dr. Rob (Herschel Savage) is the head of staff and a top surgeon, and he’s currently dealing with an affair with Nurse Grace (Janey Robbins), who’s facing a tough decision about her future after receiving a job offer in Chicago. She’s unsure what to do, looking for commitment from Dr. Rob, who’s also handling his wife, Joyce (Kay Parker), and her increasing awareness that her marriage may be over, and she doesn’t want it to end. During this critical week of duty, Dr. Michelle (Dominique) is tasked with handling patient Jack (Paul Barresi), a Hollywood star who’s been thrown off a horse, needing special attention from the medical professional, who’s fed up with sexist men. And Dr. Dennis (John Holmes) is a proctologist who can’t keep his hands to himself, soon targeting Cheri (Misty Dawn), a candy striper, for seduction during her rounds.

The saga of Dr. Rob and Nurse Grace represents the dramatic through line for “Nasty Nurses,” catching up with the couple as they burn hot with lust, but the idea of long-term commitment is driving them apart. Nurse Grace has a professional opportunity in another state, and Dr. Rob is dealing with hospital issues and his spouse, who knows what’s going on. It’s a classic set-up for a soap opera, but the writing doesn’t commit to melodrama in full. It’s more interested in pressure points from Warner, who can’t find the money to keep the medical center open, adding stress to everyone’s lives. Staff has been cut and medical research has been eliminated, keeping Dr. Rob in a state of agitation as everything comes for him during this special week of anxiety.

Lakeview Hospital has trouble with its location, finding pimps and gangbangers seeking medical attention. And there’s a visit from Jack, who’s brought in by his agent, immediately responding to Dr. Michelle’s physical appearance. “Nasty Nurses” initially seems to be building this subplot into something substantial, but there’s more to see and do in the picture, which begins to follow other employees on their rounds. This includes Cheri, who submits to the practiced womanizing ways of Dr. Dennis, giving Vatelli a chance to break away from the film’s heaviness. And there’s orderly Jerry, who’s looking to tempt Nurse Emily (Kimberly Carson) into a supply closet tryst with help from vodka hidden in an IV bottle. Of course, the alcohol finds its way to a patient instead, setting up a bit of slapstick “Night Nurses” strangely doesn’t follow through on. There is death, however, with Dr. Rob losing a patient during surgery, adding some grimness to the endeavor, complicating the titillation factor Vatelli is hoping to achieve.

The image presentation (1.85:1 aspect ratio) for "Nasty Nurses" is listed as "newly scanned and restored in 2K" from its "35mm original camera negative." It's a slightly softer examination of frame elements, but detail remains intact. Skin particular are open for examination, along with costuming as the characters slip in and out of hospital uniforms. Building interiors are decently dimensional, visiting various rooms and hallways. A few establishing shots of the hospital deliver depth. Nasty Nurses Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

"Nasty Nurse" is an odd viewing experience. It looks to respect the struggles of life and death during an average day at a hospital, but it's also cheeky in many ways, especially when it walks away from the central crisis to watch employees engage in sexual antics, while Dr. Michelle is quick to lose her professional integrity with Jack, revealing more to their relationship. Ultimately, the feature is about Dr. Rob and his terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day, faced with employment opportunities and difficulties, while his mistress is demanding answers about their future, and his wife wants to stay married. The picture isn't an exhausting psychological experience, but it tries to be more substantial, which is appealing, also bringing out some decent acting from most of the cast, who attempt to inhabit needy people to the best of their ability. "Nasty Nurses" still has its adult cinema moments, but this is no naughty romp, making some effort to address health care issues and personal concerns.
