Naruto: Set 6 Blu-ray Movie Review

The adventures continue.

Reviewed by Neil Lumbard April 18, 2022

Naruto: Set 6 delivers more action-packed adventure fans have come to expect from the series. The set contains more entertaining episodes with the ninja clan. The series is adapted from the original manga series from creator Masashi Kishimoto (who wrote and illustrated the manga). The anime was first broadcast on TV Tokyo. Licensed for release in North America by VIZ Media, Naruto comes from animation powerhouse Pierrot (Naruto: Shippûden, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations). Naruto: Set 6 includes episodes 138- 165 of the series. Fans will want to check out the new adventures.

Naruto struggles with one of the biggest missions to date: saving his close friend, Sasuke. As Naruto continues the epic journey to save Sasuke, Naruto faces down new threats and challenges as the Orochimaru go-up against his ninja skills. Yet even more danger arrives on the scene when the nefarious villain Mizuki manages a perilous escape from prison.

Planning revenge, Mizuki is perhaps the biggest threat to date. With Naruto running out of time to save Sasuke, Naruto decides to risk it all: enlisting the help of a rare beetle known only as the Bikochu. Yet the epic conclusion of the set arrives when a cursed warrior approaches within the Land of the Birds.

The sixth collection continues the exciting journey of Naruto. The episodes in the set continue to focus upon the mission to save Sasuke. This is the big plot-line continuing in the sixth collection. There are new threats and enemies faced as well. The set manages to expand on the epic adventures of Naruto and the ninjas.

One of the reasons Naruto became such a mega-hit production is the wonderful characters. The central protagonist, Naruto, is at the forefront of this success. Naruto is a charming lead and a character that audiences can relate to. There is an “everyman” quality to Naruto despite the ninja's exceptional gift. There is much to appreciate about Naruto's jubilant personality and sense of excitement with each new quest. The supporting cast adds to the excitement as well. Sasuke is one of the most compelling supporting characters.

"Oink! Oink!"

The art work is remarkable. There is something to be said about how beautiful a production Naruto is and continues to be. The animation is sublime and it manages to help the epic storytelling to unfold time and time again. The line-art is exceptional. The background art is stunning realized. This is a terrific animation achievement.

Perhaps the best component of the animation is the character designs. The wonderful designs for Naruto make a big impression. Each central character has a unique design and aesthetic. This is essential to the success of the series. A compelling and noteworthy element, the character designs manage to help the storytelling to become all the more engaging. Naruto has an especially creative design (and the costumes designs for each character fits their personalities as well).

Action fans will continue to be enthralled by Naruto. The series has intense and action-packed fight scenes. There is a lot of intensity on Naruto and in the epic landscape the series creates. The action always feels central to the storytelling. The ninja sequences are exciting and potent. There is a sense of superb creativity to the action choreography. An action-packed thrill-ride.

Naruto is a well-written series with a compelling storytelling. The sixth collection manages to provide fans with more character- moments and exciting surprises. The saga continues to walk a fine line with dark gravitas and light energy. Naruto is a fun character but the situations he finds himself in are often dangerous and complex. The saga continues to find new ways too explore the story and audiences will want to tag along for the journey.

Naruto is one of the most successful anime series of all time for a reason. The anime is beautifully directed. There is a remarkable sense of scope and scale to the production. The series showcases creativity and imagination in a unique way. There is much to love about Naruto – and the journey audiences are taken on is worthwhile. Fans will enjoy.

Naruto: Set 6 Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  3.0 of 5

Arriving on Blu-ray from VIZ, Naruto: Set 6 is presented in 1080i MPEG-4 AVC encoded high definition in the original television broadcast aspect ratio of 1.33:1 full frame. The release has reasonably impressive picture-quality for a standard-definition upscale. The series will never be as visually impressive as a native high-definition presentation can be. Even so, the upscaled video offers fans a decent improvement over the standard- definition DVD releases. Colors are a bit more robust and line art is a little more refined. The release has fewer artifacts and compression woes.

Naruto fans might be disappointing the series is not available in a native high-definition presentation. Nonetheless, when one considers the inherent source limitations, the release does an admirable job of preserving the series animation. The set has enough strengths to make it worthwhile.

Naruto: Set 6 Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  4.0 of 5

The release includes two high-resolution audio options: Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 stereo and English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 stereo. The lossless audio sounds crisp and engaging. The music is well integrated in to the sound design. Dialogue is clear and easy to understand. The stereo audio is effective at preserving the soundtrack. The imaging is reasonably entertaining for a stereo design. Action scenes showcase the best of the sound-design.

A wonderful set for series fans. The release includes a modest video-audio presentation and a small selection of extras. The set is worthwhile for die-hard enthusiasts. Recommended.
