Surpassing expectations, My Hero Academia continues to prove itself to be one of the most engaging, action-packed, and exciting anime series in production. The series continues its saga of super-heroes while finding new ground in Season 3, Part 1. The mega-hit anime is produced by Studio Bones (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood). Are you ready to hero-it-up?
The program airs on the beloved action-anime block from animation power-house Cartoon Network: Toonami. Available on Blu-ray, My Hero Academia entertains and excites with one thrilling episode after another. The super-hero series is at the top of its game.
The third season picks up where season two concluded and expands the adventure by bringing the super-hero classmates to a training camp during the summer season. The group gets together for a unforgettable summer in the outdoors. The skylight above, the team battle it out as each student develops additional skills and insights towards their hero training.
Things turn deadly with some super sinister opponents turn up out of nowhere and duke it out with the students. As tensions rise, things escalate quickly, and a student is taken away by the League of Villains. It is now up to All Might to save the day and defeat the biggest threat of all: All For One. Can our heroes survive the dangers ahead?
"Are you ready to marathon some anime?!"
A visually stunning work of animation, My Hero Academia is a breathtaking production that has so many marvelous elements on display throughout the entire production. The character designs are distinctive to the My Hero Academia universe. There is a clear sense of originality to the designs. Background art is especially creative and manages to expand the scope of the series into something even more inspired.
The animators clearly worked tirelessly on the production in order to craft exciting and effective action sequences. The dramatic moments are also heartfelt and never seem to miss a (heart) beat. The clear cohesiveness of the animation is one of the finest strengths of the series.
Director Kenji Nagasaki (My Hero Academia: Two Heroes) serves as the chief director of My Hero Academia. The results in season three are just as solid as the earlier seasons. In fact, the beginning storyline in season three offers audiences some of the most intense sequences in the entire series.
Audiences are in for a real treat this season. Screenwriter Yôsuke Kuroda (Waiting in the Summer) and original manga author Kôhei Horikoshi (My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising) are impressive storytellers who manage to blend the action with the drama in good measure. There certainly seems to be a sense of cohesiveness to the scripts which is not always found in action anime series. While the series could have played it easy in regards to the ongoing storyline, the third season finds the story heading in some exciting new directions instead.
While some anime series seem to out-stay their welcome, My Hero Academia manages to become even more engaging in its third season run. The story brings some new drama and excitement to table and fans will be thrilled by the last arc of the set: the massive fight between our favorite hero, All Might, and All For One. These episodes are intense and unmissable. No My Hero Academia fan should go without seeing these fantastic action-packed episodes.
Arriving on Blu-ray from Funimation, My Hero Academia: Season 3, Part 1 features a 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high definition presentation in the original broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. The series looks consistently impressive on the Blu-ray format. The first set for Season 3 is another excellent release which retains a bright and colorful presentation for the visually striking animation. Throughout the entire set, the anime looked crisp and smooth at the same time. The encoding was exceptional and there is only minor banding from time to time. Funimation has done a solid job presenting the series.
The release features two lossless audio options: English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and the original Japanese Dolby TrueHD 2.0 (with English subtitles). The audio tracks offer fans a chance to experience the series with the best sound-quality available. The lossless audio packs a decent amount of punch. It certainly has a reasonable about of bass and the action-scenes can manage to make a solid impression. Dialogue remains crisp, clear, and easy to understand throughout the entire set. The score is also well represented and brought to life (especially on the surround sound English dub track – which adds extra ambiance to the presentation). A satisfactory effort, indeed.
