Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation - Season Two, Part One is an action-adventure fantasy aimed at the action crowd. Created by Rifujin na Magonote, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation continues exploring the story in the second season of the series. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation - Season Two, Part One features animation production by Studio Bind (Introduction to Mineralogy, ONIMAI: I'm Now Your Sister!) and original character designs by Shirotaka. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is sure to appeal to the Shonen anime fanbase.
Produced by Mitsuteru Hishiyama (ONIMAI: I'm Now Your Sister!, The Apothecary Diaries), Ryōsuke Imai (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation II - Guardian Fitz), Shō Ōsuga (The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic), Sou Yurugi (My Stepmom's Daughter Is My Ex, Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World), Takahiro Yamanaka (I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level, In Search of the Lost Future), Takurō Hatakeyama (Ikki Tousen: Dragon Destiny, Samurai Girls), and Tomoyuki Ōwada (Death March to The Parallel World Rhapsody, Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs), Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation - Season Two, Part One features voice-work by Yumi Uchiyama, Tomokazu Sugita, and Ai Kayano. Featuring theme song performances by LONGMAN (opening) and Yuiko Ōhara (ending) and Ai Kayano (ending two).
Rudeus Greyrat (Yumi Uchiyama) has a lot of changes in store for him. Going from homelessness to being reincarnated as an adventurer, Rodeus discovers a new world awaits him. The struggles of homelessness have now been replaced with exciting exploits.
In fact, Rudeus does such a good job adventuring that he earns a rare and prestigious invitation to join the Ranoa University of Magic. A massive change of pace, Rudeus begins university studies and a realm of magic awaits him. He even comes across an old friend – though the old friend is now in disguise.
Can Rudeus reshape his life after reincarnation? Though Rudeus was plagued by depression in his past life, there’s still plenty of fun and excitement in store for him now that he has been reincarnated into new lands. A new life awaits.
Rudeus Greyrat may appeal to a lot of audience members. The character is one who has struggled with a lot of issues in his past life. Experiencing homelessness and struggling in the real world, the chance at a new adventure in his reincarnation is something that builds on the character. Audiences who have had personal struggles – whether financial or otherwise – may relate to the common man element of the protagonist. The character designs for the series are by Sanae Shimada (Photo Kano, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation II - Guardian Fitz) and Yoshiko Saitō (Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible, Farming Life in Another World). The character designs certainly play a notable role in the production. Rudeus has a solid design and though perhaps not the most distinct design it works well enough for the series and genre.
The animation is one of the key components of the action-adventure series. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation - Season Two, Part One features solid animation and the production highlights art direction by Masakazu Miyake (The Helpful Fox Senko- san, Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms). The series also features chief animation direction by Aya Tanaka (Samurai Warriors: Legend of the Sanada, Ulysses: Jeanne d'Arc and the Alchemist Knight). The animation team had a lot of fun with the production. The animators did solid work with the background animation, line art, and the other elements.
The cinematography by Shinji Tonsho (FLCL Alternative, Saga of Tanya the Evil) is a nice highlight of the series, too. The visuals are well enhanced with the cinematography helping to bring out the best in the production. The style evokes the bright and sunny landscape of the fantasy world. These visual elements fit the genre and shonen fans will enjoy the way the art looks with the cinematography.
The score composed by Yoshiaki Fujisawa (Spy Classroom, A Place Further Than the Universe) is a decent addition to the series, too. Fujisawa is a talented composer and the music adds some energy for the action-adventure elements. The action scenes have solid background music that helps highlight the exciting elements at play.
Written by Toshiya Ono (Blue Exorcist: Beyond the Snow Saga, Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero), Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation - Season Two, Part One continues the saga. The writer continues the story and saga. The series is aimed right at the fans. Fans who are looking for more adventures with the characters of the series will find more to explore in the new collection.
Directed by Hiroki Hirano (Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan, Senki Zesshō Symphogear XV), Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation - Season Two, Part One provides the action the core fanbase wants. The action-adventure elements are explored by the director. The fantasy world a big part of the equation. Director Hirano builds on what came before and established fans will want to hop back onboard for more adventure and to see what happens next.
Released on Blu-ray by Crunchyroll, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation - Season Two, Part One is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high-definition in the original television broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. The release includes an impressive high-definition presentation with an impressively bold and colorful animation style on display. The animation is well reproduced with impressive background art and line detail. The colorful and robust animation appears bold with worthwhile color depth.
One of the strengths of the Blu-ray disc format is the superior video encoding one often finds on the format. The Blu-ray disc format can provide superior bit-rates compared to streaming services. By comparison, streaming is often more compressed and provides lower video bit-rates. For video enthusiasts and home theater aficionados looking for the best presentation available this can be something of note for collectors.
The release includes a selection of lossless audio options: English Dolby TrueHD 2.0 and Japanese Dolby TrueHD 2.0 (with English subtitles). The release preserves the solid sound direction by Jin Aketagawa (anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, A Lull in the Sea). Dialogue is crisp and easy to understand. Music is well reproduced on the release, too. The 2.0 stereo audio is dynamic enough to add to the presentation with good dynamics on the release. The English subtitles on the release are well done. The subtitles are free from egregious issues with spelling or grammar.
One of the most essential elements of the Blu-ray format is the lossless audio encoding. Lossless audio is important to audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts who want the best possible audio presentation. The lossless encoding provides higher bit-rates and better bit-depth for a more engaging, robust, and enjoyable soundstage. Streaming video services only provide lossy (non-lossless) audio quality by comparison.
The release includes an o-card slipcover. The slipcover features the same key artwork as the artwork featured underneath the slipcover. The cover-art features an interior art on the opposite side of the sleeve.
On disc supplements include:
Promo Videos (HD, 5:08)
Textless Opening Song (HD, 1:32)
Textless Closing Song (HD, 1:32)
Unfortunately, the release has a lackluster supplemental package. The bonus features on the release could have been a lot more expansive. The release would have benefited by including some audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes documentaries, cast/crew interview, production roundtables, photo galleries, art galleries, and other quality supplements.
Alas, the release does not include much in the way of bonus features. For some collectors and enthusiasts a lackluster supplemental package can mean the difference between a purchase and a one time watch on a streaming service. This is certainly one of the things collectors might want to weigh in on when debating a purchase and whether or not it is worth picking up for them.
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation - Season Two, Part One continues the action-adventure journey. The series will continue to appeal to fans looking for more fun with the cast of characters and the vast world of the production. The release includes a solid high-definition presentation and lossless audio encoding. The only downside is a lackluster supplemental package. Fans wanting to own a permanent copy for their collection may still wish to consider a purchase.
