Overview

Monsters, Inc. 4K (2001)

Monsters, Inc. is a factory which sends monsters around the world to scare kids who are trying to sleep. It's nothing personal, in fact the screams are used to power Monstropolis where the monsters live. This job isn't easy for the monsters, who believe children are toxic. James P. Sullivan, a large woolly blue monster, is one of the company's top scarers. Teamed up with a troublesome green one-eyed monster named Mike Wazowski, the two roommates and best friends are finding that today's kids are not as easily scared as they used to be. One night Sulley accidentally lets a young girl named Boo into the monster world. Now Sulley and Mike must risk their own safety as they race to get Boo back into the human world without letting anyone know of her existence.

Monsters, Inc. 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman March 5, 2020

Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for the colorful Pixar film 'Monsters, Inc.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

A relaxing pastel purple gives color to the front and rear panels of Disney's smooth, glossy, fingerprint-attracting SteelBook. The color intensity lessens in the center where an image depicts Sulley, Mike, and Boo hanging from a door, one of several along a mechanical line, this one pink and decorated with flowers. The film's debossed title appears in white lettering, top center, with "Disney Pixar" text in accompaniment. The rear panel is similar in terms of layout. The purple color lightens towards the middle where sits three of the yellow scream collection units. Small copyright and model number text appears at the bottom. The spine is an offsetting teal-blue color, giving the entire exterior Sulley's primary coloring. The film's title in the same white color and type appears center while an UltraHD logo has been placed at the bottom.

Inside, the Digital copy floats; there are no tabs to hold it down. One disc appears on its own hub left and the others on the right in staggered-stacked formation where the top disc partially slides underneath the bottom disc's spindle. The inner print is a two panel spread that primarily features Mike on the left and Sulley on the right with several other monsters around them on either side and behind.

Monsters, Inc. 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.5 of 5

Disney and Best Buy's colorful SteelBook release for Monsters, Inc. is the perfect way to own the film on UHD. It is, like the movie, vibrant and playful and is sure to look great, and stand out, on the shelf. The UHD presentation is solid, too. Highly recommended.
