Mitchiri Neko is a cute and charming anime series aimed at the entire family. The series has an adorable aesthetic with beautiful animation produced by helo.inc (Watanuki-san Chi to, Yoshimaho: Yoshi Yoshi Magic). The series was first streamed on Crunchyroll. Distributed on home media by Discotek Media, Mitchiri Neko is a cat-tastic series with a charming theme song by Yuriyan Retriever.

Life is (mostly) fun and games for the wonderful cats of the Mitchiri Neko family! Join Piyopiyo (Hiroshi Kamiya), Mitchi (Jun Fukuyama), Ribon (Saori Hayami), Honey (Takahiro Sakurai), and Colorful (Yūichi Nakamura) as the kitty-cat cuties are full of fur and playing in the sun as the kitties leap across the outdoors, play soccer, march in a marching band, compete in video games, and chow-down on an assortment of yummy foods. Meow! It’s purring time as these cutie cats are purr-fect felines!

The cute kitty-cats of Mitchiri Neko are an adorable bunch. The cute kitties are full of play and a sense of feline fun. There is a sense of charm in these characters and their vibrant love of bouncing around. The sense of adventure in the cats as they purr and preen their claws makes the series a more charming family production.

The animation is wonderful and a huge part of the series success. The animators of Mitchiri Neko did an incredible job with the aesthetic for the series. Though the art style is simplistic in most respects, the animation is beautiful, serene, and charming. The animators created wonderful art for these furry, adorable, and purr-fect feline characters. The bright and colorful animation gives the series a vibrant, family-oriented charm. The effort is fantastic and the animation is wonderful to behold. The series would charm audiences of any age.

The series has a beautiful and serene score composed by Tetsuya Kobayashi (Persona 4 the Golden Animation, Hakata Mentai! Pirikarako-chan). The music is one of the best highlights of the series. Charming music and full of light, the score provides the perfect backdrop to the production. An undeniably delightful score that is a great accompaniment to the kitty-cat fun in the sun.

Directed by Kyō Yatate (Bananya, Bananya and the Curious Bunch), Mitchiri Neko is a light and airy animated production. The series doesn’t strive for anything too complex from a storytelling perspective – the series is about showcasing the fun adventures of these feline kitty cats. The joy of Mitchiri Neko is simply in spending time with these furry and sweet-as-a-button cats while they go about their journeys of fun.

Families will especially enjoy and appreciate the series as it could be a perfect antidote for kids looking for something charming – it will appeal to the adults, too. Young, old – it doesn’t matter - Mitchiri Neko is a sweet-natured program and the anime series is brought to life with a fun sense of creativity by director Kyō Yatate.

Released on Blu-ray by Discotek Media, Mitchiri Neko is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high-definition in the original television broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. The release has a nice high-definition encoding. The 1080p video looks excellent on the release with bright and colorful animation. The aesthetic is crisp and stunning looking in high-definition. Line art is well reproduced. The presentation has excellent encoding and is free from egregious compression woes. An excellent video presentation provided by Discotek Media.

The release is presented in Japanese uncompressed PCM 2.0 stereo (with English subtitles). The lossless audio encoding on the release is excellent. The sound quality is clear and easy to understand. The nice audio presentation highlights the strong sound direction by Shiori Yamazaki. The score is highlighted well on the release. The only potential drawback to the audio on the release is the lack of an English dubbed option. This may seem a bit disappointing to some audiences – especially to families who perhaps might want to share the series with the entire family.

The release has no on-disc supplemental features. The only extra is the nice-looking o-card slipcover on the release. The slip has nice cover-art and is printed on quality cardstock. The inner-sleeve art is the same. The release might have benefited from some on-disc features (such as photo galleries).

Mitchiri Neko is a charming and delightful anime series with a big heart. The series has colorful and robust animation. The aesthetic of Mitchiri Neko is superb. The series features cute-as-a-button episodes with the kitty-cats of the anime. Fans of kawaii anime will want to check it out. The presentation is excellent with good video and audio. Recommended.
