Mission: Impossible - Fallout 3D Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Neil Lumbard April 13, 2025Mission: Impossible – Fallout is one of the best films in the long-running action franchise. The sixth feature in the Mission: Impossible film series, Mission: Impossible – Fallout is an incredible work of art and a masterclass in action filmmaking. Based on the television series created by Bruce Geller, Mission: Impossible – Fallout is produced by J.J. Abrams, Tom Cruise, Christopher McQuarrie, and Jake Myers. Starring Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Sean Harris, Angela Bassett, Vanessa Kirby, Michelle Monaghan, and Alec Baldwin, Mission: Impossible – Fallout is an essential spy thriller.
Solomon Lane (Sean Harris) is putting together a new threat to the world with a team of terrorists rebranding themselves from their former name – the Syndicate – to the Apostles. The Apostles are dangerous terrorists and the threat is never gone. IMF agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is now tasked with a new mission to stop the Apostles.
The Apostles want to cause chaos with nuclear damages in several cities. Ethan Hunt works alongside his expert team – including Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames), Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), and Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson). CIA director Erika Sloane (Angela Bassett) also enlists some new help: Agent August Walker (Henry Cavill).
Former CIA chief director Alan Hunley (Alec Baldwin) is now working directly with the IMF. Meanwhile, The White Widow (Vanessa Kirby) enters the picture. As does a returning past love of Ethan – Julia (Michelle Monaghan). Can Ethan rekindle his love, stop Solomon Lane, and save the world?

Tom Cruise is one of the greatest action heroes in the history of cinema. An impressive action star who performs his own breathtaking stunts, Cruise delivers an outstanding performance in the leading role. Cruise is one of the most incredible actors of his generation. As an action hero, Cruise made this the greatest modern action film series.
The supporting cast is terrific, too. Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Angela Bassett, Henry Cavill, Alec Baldwin, and Michelle Monaghan are all excellent in their respective roles. There is a lot to appreciate about the supporting cast of players and what each actor brings to the table. The original television series emphasized the team element and the later installments of the film franchise help focus on that aspect of the franchise. Ethan Hunt must work alongside his team of experts on the adventure.
Edited by Eddie Hamilton (Top Gun: Maverick, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation), Mission: Impossible – Fallout is perfectly paced. The editing is top-notch and there is a sense of everything being expertly executed. The rhythm of the filmmaking is superb. There are no missed beats. A superb effort by Hamilton.
The production design by Peter Wenham (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Fast Five) is first-rate and a great showcase for the film. Wenham is an ace designer and someone who understands the importance for high-scale production design. The sense of scope given to the film is impeccable. The senior art direction by Matt Gray (Inception, Sherlock Holmes) is a highlight of the production, too. The art direction showcasing some of the intricacies of the filmmaking.
The costume designs by Jeffrey Kurland (Inception, Tomorrowland) are excellent and bring so much class and style to the feature. Kurland is a terrific costume designer and the efforts bring a lot to the table. The filmmaking is all the better as a result.
The score composed by Lorne Balfe (Black Widow, The Lego Batman Movie) is exceptional and brings a sense of wonder to the filmmaking. Balfe composed an excellent action score and one that is a superb backdrop to the film. Mission: Impossible – Fallout is full of high-energy and excitement – the score a perfect component of the filmmaking.
The cinematography by Rob Hardy (Civil War, Ex Machina) is breathtaking. The visuals are some of the best in the Mission: Impossible franchise. The visual language of the film is superb. Hardy is an outstanding cinematographer and someone with a keen understanding of how-to photograph the exhilarating action sequences. The IMAX footage is especially impressive to behold.
Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning), Mission: Impossible – Fallout is a must-see action-adventure – one of the best in the film series. McQuarrie has become the MVP alongside Tom Cruise. The Mission: Impossible film series just wouldn’t have become what it is today without McQuarrie at the helm.
McQuarrie imbues every frame of Mission: Impossible – Fallout with his impeccable style as a filmmaker. Mission: Impossible – Fallout is a legendary action-film – an instant classic of the genre. Don’t miss it.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout 3D Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality

Released on 3D Blu-ray by Turbine, Mission: Impossible – Fallout is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 MVC in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.39:1 widescreen and 1.90:1 widescreen. The feature-film has an alternating aspect ratio. The 1.90:1 aspect ratio is the IMAX presentation ratio. The IMAX scenes (as filmed for IMAX) are preserved on the 3D Blu-ray discs.
These sequences were filmed using higher resolution IMAX cameras. There is enormous clarity and depth to these IMAX sequences. The 3D is breathtaking. What a joy to experience the IMAX scenes on 3D Blu-ray. These scenes are especially compelling and the 3D is some of the best seen on the 3D Blu-ray format. I had numerous full-body chills during all of the IMAX 3D scenes.
The non-IMAX scenes look great as well. However, the non-IMAX scenes are somewhat softer – with a more natural filmic look – compared to the high-resolution IMAX cameras. The IMAX scenes rate 5/5 and the non-IMAX sequences are 4/5, so the score is graded at 4.5/5.
For 3D enthusiasts, Mission: Impossible – Fallout is a must-own 3D Blu-ray release. The 3D is reference quality (especially those noteworthy IMAX sequences) and the 3D looks better than ever before when viewed with the OLED65E6P: a reference 3D display and still the best 3D display ever produced. The theatrical 3D exhibition I viewed upon release wasn't even as crystal clear or flawless looking as the beautiful 3D Blu-ray release.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout 3D Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality

The release is presented in Dolby Atmos. The Atmos audio includes a lossless, high-resolution 24-bit Dolby TrueHD 7.1 surround sound audio core. The lossless audio quality is exceptional and gives an immersive quality to the presentation. The score is beautifully reproduced with the Atmos sound presentation. The sound effects & the dynamic elements all sound crystal clear on the release. A reference audio presentation.
Audiophiles appreciate the extra clarity of lossless audio. Streaming video services only provide lossy (non-lossless) audio quality – often limited on streaming platforms to MP3 quality. For home theater enthusiasts who want the best possible audio quality obtainable, physical media offers a significant improvement that is only available on physical. The 24-bit high resolution boost allows for more crystal-clear details, greater depth, and overall clarity. The difference is night-and-day with a release as coveted as Mission: Impossible – Fallout 3D.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout 3D Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

The release comes packaged in a gorgeous clear case in the style of boutique labels such as the Criterion Collection. The case itself is stunning and a great way to display the package design. The Blu-ray release comes with reversible cover-art. One side of the package has cover art with German text on the front cover and spine. The other side of the package has English friendly cover art with English text on the front cover and spine. The English cover art side has no ratings logos or stickers. A nicely designed package.
The release comes with no on-disc supplements. Turbine has made a statement that the releases on 3D Blu-ray are designed to deliver optimal high-quality 3D presentations with maxed out video and audio bit-rates for a premium 3D experience. The emphasis of these 3D Blu-ray releases is entirely on the quality of the 3D presentation. Fans can pick up separately available 4K/Bu-ray releases with the supplements for additional content related to the feature-film.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout 3D Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Mission: Impossible – Fallout is a masterpiece of action filmmaking. One of the greatest installments in what is the best modern action film series. Tom Cruise is one of the best action stars in the history of cinema and with each installment of the Mission: Impossible film series, Cruise delivers in spades.
The 3D Blu-ray release is a must-own for 3D enthusiasts. The 3D is some of the best on the 3D Blu-ray format and the IMAX sequences are especially breathtaking. A must-own reference-quality 3D disc. Highly recommended.
