Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries: Complete Collection Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman November 7, 2020

Ask many mystery fans to name a sleuth known by "Miss", and of course Miss Marple would probably get more than a mention or two. If the title character of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries arguably hasn't attained quite the renown of the Agatha Christie icon, she's certainly had her own fair degree of success, as evidenced not just by Kerry Greenwood's novel series, but by this series itself. Acorn has now aggregated its previously released individual seasons of the series, along with the feature film which followed most recently. There's also one curious if potentially fun piece of non disc swag included with this release which will be detailed in the Special Features and Extras section, below.

This release repackages the three seasons of the show as well as the subsequent feature film which Acorn has brought out previously on Blu-ray. For reviews of these releases, please click on the following links:

Supplements included with each release are detailed in the above linked reviews. Additionally, as already mentioned in the first part of this review, this collection comes with a kind of fun "magnetic doll" set that features Miss Fisher as a flat rubberized refrigerator magnet figure in shockingly scanty underclothing (I'm joking a bit, but, yes, she's just in her underwear), with various outfits ( and alternate heads, just for good measure) you can then "apply" to her. This might suggest that some market guru has done research and Miss Fisher has a gaggle of younger girl fans who might like to play with dolls. Kind of hilariously, because Miss Fisher is the magnet applied to the refrigerator, that can mean that the "attraction" when you try to put some of her clothes on top of her isn't the strongest, meaning she does a slow striptease. Another "strategy" is just to combine the alternate heads with some of the clothing, but that way you end up with an armless Miss Fisher evidently doing a Venus de Milo impersonation. I've uploaded an image of the magnets under the Packaging tab for this release.

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries: Complete Collection Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

This Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries offer fun if not overly complex mysteries that feature the same kind of handsome period production design that made the BBC Poirot outings so memorable. This new aggregation of the series' three seasons and the subsequent feature film will save fans a bit of money when compared to buying each of the prior releases individually. The first season has some iffy video due to the interlaced presentation, but the rest of the releases look and sound great. Recommended.
