Mindwarp / Brainscan Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman June 25, 2019

This Mill Creek two-pack contains two Sci-Fi films from the 90s: Director Steve Barnett's pre-'Matrix' take on artificial reality with 'Mindwarp' and Director John Flynn's pre-Columbine take on teenage mental health in 'Brainscan.' Both films were previously released to Blu-ray, 'Mindwarp' by Twilight Time and 'Brainscan' by Shout! Factory. Mill Creek's featureless presentations share a disc. Both offer fair video and audio.

Mindwarp / Brainscan Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  2.5 of 5

Brainscan is the better film here; it's more thoughtful, in-depth, and engaging. Mindwarp predates The Matrix and comes well after some of its themes were explored in movies like The Time Machine, but it's more of a clunky, low end B experience that aims higher and stars Bruce Campbell to boot. Both films have been released before in much pricier editions. For fans who don't mind missing out on extras -- which are substantial on Shout!'s Brainscan -- this double bill offers more than serviceable A/V presentations. Recommended.
