Miller’s Girl is a seductive drama-thriller. Executive produced by Jade Halley Bartlett, Martin Freeman, and Bernie Stern. Starring Martin Freeman and Jenna Ortega.
Jonathan Miller (Martin Freeman) and Cairo Sweet (Jenna Ortega) form an unlikely relationship stepping beyond the ordinary confines of teacher- student. With a school assignment, Cairo becomes interested beyond the assignment and becomes far more interested in her instructor. Cairo even read Jonathan’s book and finds him fascinating. As the two become closer, the professional boundaries of teacher-student become tested as the relationship steps into new territory.
The performances are excellent and are reason enough to see Miller’s Girl. Miller’s Girl has excellent leading performances by both of the main cast members. Martin Freeman is excellent in the teacher role and he provides a certain gravitas that is unquestionably his own and a good testament to his acting ability. Jenna Ortega is electrifying with her sensuality and sexuality on full display – her beauty shines in and out. The radiance of Ortega brings out the best in her performance. Ortega is mature and sophisticated here while consistently showcasing her sensuality.
The score composed by Elyssa Samsel (Central Park, Between the Lines) is well-done and adds to the filmmaking. The score by Samsel is something that provides depth and a sense of wonder to the film. Score music adding a sense of whimsy and charm to the dramatic moments and elements of intrigue during the thrilling aspects.

The cinematography by Daniel Brothers (Adam, the First) is beautiful and poetic. The visual language of the film is sublime. Miller’s Girl is a beautiful looking film and the lensing is top-notch throughout. The cinematography showcases the radiance of the filmmakers’ aesthetic goals.
Edited by Vanara Taing (The Unknown Country, Jazzy), Miller’s Girl is a well-paced and well- edited film. The editing handles the material beautifully. The editing is especially compelling in the sensual scenes – adding a whimsy to the seductiveness and making the film all the more enticing.
The production designs by Cheyenne Ford (Shiva Baby, Story Ave) are impressive throughout. There is a lot to appreciate about the designs by Ford. Ford made the storyline come to life with a wonderful aesthetic quality that is essential to the filmmaking. The designs add a lot of flavor to the film. The art direction by Nate Dahlkemper (On a Wing and a Prayer) and Jordan W. Sayman (Bunny) adds to the aesthetic sensibilities – as does the set decoration by Katie Laxton.
The costume designs by Lauren Bott (Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, Black and Blue) are sublime. The designs work well for the entire cast of characters. There are especially noteworthy efforts here for the leading actors. Jenna Ortega is sexy and sublime here and the costuming for her character reflects it enormously well.
Written and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett in her feature-film debut, Miller’s Girl is a smart and fun thriller with a good storyline and characterizations. The filmmaking feels poetic and nuanced. This is certainly a better-than-expected debut feature and it shows a lot of promise for the future, too. The director brings out great performances from the cast. An exceptional effort all around.

Released on Blu-ray by Dazzler Media, Miller's Girl is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high-definition in the original theatrical aspect ratio. The high-definition transfer looks stunning on the release. Colors are exceptional. The level of detail and clarity on the release is first-rate. A stunning visual presentation.

The release includes a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio surround sound presentation. The lossless surround sound is crisp and clear on the release. Dialogue is clear and easy to understand. The score is well reproduced. The soundstage is enveloping and works well throughout the presentation. A superb presentation.

Unfortunately, there are no bonus features included on the release.

Miller's Girl is a fantastic character-study dramatic-thriller. The sensuality of the filmmaking is superb and Jenna Ortega has never looked so sexy as she does in this thriller. The performances are excellent. Quality filmmaking and storytelling. A fantastic feature debut by writer-director Jade Halley Bartlett.
The Blu-ray release features an excellent high-definition presentation and lossless audio encoding. There are no bonus features. Highly recommended.
