Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman October 4, 2016Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates might seem like a somewhat strange film to receive a 4K UHD "upgrade", but perhaps surprisingly thanks to the film's candy colored palette and party hearty soundtrack, there's quite a bit to enjoy both visually and aurally. Whether or not the actual film is worth viewing is another matter entirely, of course, and one's tolerance for raunchy humor will probably determine whether or not this is a "date" worth keeping.

For my thoughts on the film, please see our original Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates Blu-ray review.

Note: The included screenshots are sourced from a 1080p Blu-ray disc. Watch for 4K screenshots at a later date.
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is presented on 4K UHD courtesy of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment with an HEVC / H.265 encoded
2160p transfer in 2.39:1. I was a little surprised that detail levels weren't more noticeably prevalent in this version than on the 1080p Blu-ray, and also
found it at least a little surprising that some of the flesh tones look a bit sallow in this version. The opening half hour or so of the film simply doesn't offer
much in the way of "wow" visuals in any case, but once the film gets to Hawaii, HDR offers some vibrant new nuance in things like the dresses the girls
first appear in at the poolside party. Some relatively minor aspects like the blue wallpaper in the hotel have a much more palpable seeming texture in this
version. The SUV sequence offers marginally better depth of field now, and the foliage is better resolved. Some of the late night sequences have
increased shadow definition as well, but generally speaking, this is not a gigantic upgrade over the 1080p Blu-ray viewing experience.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

As I mentioned in the Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates Blu-ray review, this is not exactly a sophisticated comedy, but when taken on its own often juvenile merits, there are certainly laughs to be had. Whether or not this deserves a 4K UHD "upgrade" (in terms of purchasing this in this format if you've already gotten the 1080p Blu- ray) is a debatable point, with the video offering a slight but hardly breathtaking uptick in detail and (especially) color gradations, and audio exactly the same as on the Blu-ray version.
