Mickey 17 is an "expendable" a disposable employee, on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of its memories intact.

Released alongside the standard 4K and Blu-ray, Warner Bros. also offers a Limited Edition 4K/Blu-ray Steelbook variant of Bong Joon Ho's sci-fi black comedy Mickey 17, which is the only way to get both formats in one package. That alone makes it an ideal choice for collectors, but the design doesn't exactly scream "creativity" as its front cover even strongly resembles the UHD release. Nonetheless, both formats offer truly outstanding A/V treatments... so whichever option you choose, you'll be getting a very high-quality presentation of this native 4K film.

For details about Mickey 17's 4K and Blu-ray transfers, please see the their respective reviews.

For details about Mickey 17's default Atmos mix, please see my recent 4K review. Please note that the included Blu-ray disc features different dub and subtitle options than its 4K counterpart.

This two-disc release ships in Steelbook packaging whose front cover bears a striking resemblance to the 4K edition, the only difference is that it's zoomed out slightly with full room for a silvery border that's slightly reflective even with a matte finish. The back cover features a bold red "18" with Mickey peeking out from behind it, while the interior spread features both iterations of the main character in front of a herd of Creepers on Niflheim's surface. (Oddly, it's tinted very warmly and thus looks more like a desert planet than one that's entirely frozen.) Both discs sit on overlapping hubs on the right. This isn't exactly the most inspired design in recent memory, but some fans will like it.
The on-disc bonus features are identical on both discs and covered in my 4K review linked above.

Many acclaimed directors before Bong Joon Ho have ridden a massive wave of commercial and critical acclaim to get carte blanche from a major studio... and failed to meet or beat box office expectations. The jury's still out on whether or not Mickey 17 deserved to flop, but it's clearly not on the same immediate level as the director's better (and smaller) work. Even so, it has a few inspired ideas and great moments and, while I definitely wouldn't recommend this one as a complete blind buy, die-hard fans of the cast and director may find more to like here. They'll at least be appreciative of Warner Bros. 4K and Blu-ray packages, which both offer outstanding A/V specs and a few decent bonus features; this Limited Edition Steelbook ups the ante with collectible packaging and both formats in one handy package.
