Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for the timeless 1964 family film 'Mary Poppins.' The contents inside the SteelBook are identical to what was included with the '50th Anniversary Edition' Blu-ray released in 2013, minus that the digital copy is a fresh 'Movies Anywhere' voucher. For more on the SteelBook's look and feel, see the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more.

Dense, deep reds define the dominant color across the front and rear covers for Best Buy's SteelBook release of Mary Poppins. Brush strokes
are visible when looking closely. Julie Andrews' Mary Poppins appears center, floating on her umbrella. She's wearing black dress and a red scarf. She's
holding a satchel in her right hand. Red, yellow, and blue flower petals fall around her, primarily her left. Dancing chimney sweeps line the bottom in
silhouette. The rear side is much the same, with Poppins replaced by the kite that plays a key role in the film. It appears in silhouette as well. The
spine is a flat black color with the film's title appearing center in white dot letters. A Disney Blu-ray logo appears at the top and the bird head umbrella
knob
appears at the bottom.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked under the left-hand side tabs. On the right, the two discs -- one Blu-ray and one DVD -- are staggered-stacked.
The inner print is a two-panel spread that offers something unique, a hand-drawn crayon depiction of Mary Poppins, left, floating above the city against
a light blue sky. It's a very nice creative touch that feels at home for this movie and SteelBook (and would have also felt at home in the Mary Poppins Returns SteelBook with its drawn depictions on its front
and rear
panels).

It's a shame that Disney didn't take advantage of the UHD release of Mary Poppins Returns as reason to reissue this film on UHD, but the studio has included the wonderful 50th Anniversary Blu-ray which is itself of extraordinarily high quality. This SteelBook is very nice, too, a mite better than that released for the sequel. It does cost a few dollars more than the wide release packaging (which has been on the market for some time), but collectors should certainly add this to the collection. Highly recommended.
