Mandy Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Randy Miller III March 21, 2023
Released alongside the standard Blu-ray, RLJ
Entertainment also offers a Steelbook edition of Panos Kosmatos' Mandy. Boasting a similar design aesthetic and identical disc contents, it's
aimed at packaging collectors and is currently on sale at a similar price point to the regular version, making it a low-risk upgrade for
die-hard fans. Perhaps the only minor difference is the addition of a DVD copy, which likely won't be used by most but is appreciated anyway.

For a synopsis and light roast of this polarizing Nicholas Cage vehicle (is there any other kind?), please read Michael Reuben's
2020 review of the standard Blu-ray edition. I'm a
little more forgiving of the film's oddball vibe but in no way would consider
Mandy some kind of hidden gem or underrated classic... so if
you've not seen this yet, going in blind might not be the best strategy. Or maybe it
is. Hey, it's your money, after all.

Mandy Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

This two-disc release ships in a slightly glossy Steelbook with an overall pink and purple-dominant color scene similar to the standard Blu-ray, albeit
with different images: a striking collage on the front, and a tattoo-like "branching" image spelling out the film's title on the back. The interior design is a
splash image of Reed Miller (Cage), mostly in silhouette, set against a near-empty horizon. It's a nice-looking package, to be sure, and one that
doesn't deviate at all from the film's overall visual aesthetic while still looking different enough to justify its existence.
On-disc bonus features are identical to the standard
edition and include:
- Behind the Scenes Featurette (21:49)
- Deleted & Extended Scenes (13:55)
Mandy Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Panos Kosmatos' Mandy is not for everyone, but this Nicholas Cage-starring thriller should likely appeal to the actor's more seasoned fans. I'm
on the fence about its overall strengths and rewatchability, but it's certainly worth a once-over if the story sounds interesting to you. RLJ
Entertainment's Steelbook Edition, priced similarly to the
standard Blu-ray edition, offers premium packaging and a bonus DVD copy of the film at a similar price point. If any of these merits make
Mandy sound like a worthy upgrade or even a first-time purchase, go for it.
