A return to the story which began with the 2014 Disney production, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil once again shifts audience expectations with the fairy tail twist adding new surprises in good measure. The storyline picks up with the characters five years following the end of the events in the first Maleficent film. Once again, Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) is at the front-and-center while she helps to act as the protector of the land. Her relationship with Aurora (Elle Fanning) continues to develop as the young princess is transitioning into her role as Queen. The topic of marriage for Aurora looms. As drama unfolds and surprising twists unravel, the film adds to the fantasy, mystery, and excitement of the fantastical universe and will have audiences on the edge of their seat. Director Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) gives a new spin to the myth of Maleficent.
Not so evil, after all.

Though not as impressive as the first Maleficent outing, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is nonetheless a reasonably engaging sequel which is all the better for a charming performance from Elle Fanning. Angelina Jolie is similarly impressive while returning to the title role. The film has some quality special effects, production design merits, and costumes. The Target exclusive 4K edition has an impressively designed DigiPack style package with a gallery book that is a nice little add-on to the release. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is an imperfect but reasonably engaging film that is worth a watch.
