Luca 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Randy Miller III August 8, 2021
Released in tandem with the standard 4K
edition, Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, and Best
Buy's exclusive Steelbook, Disney/Pixar and
Target have collaborated on a store-exclusive version of Luca, the studio's latest big-screen fantasy adventure. As with their past
exclusives, on-disc contents are identical between each format's versions, with different design elements and/or printed goodies being the only
tangible differences here. It's purely a matter of personal preference... unless you're a die-hard Disney collector and want one of each, obviously.

For a synopsis of
Luca, please refer to my colleague Marty Liebman's reviews of the various discs linked above.

Luca 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

This 4K/Blu-ray combo pack arrives in a standard keepcase with an exclusive fold-out slipcover and four collectable mini lithograph prints; both
elements are exclusive to this release and, while less inherently collectable than both Target's earlier style of Digipak exclusives -- which featured full gatefold packaging, square-bound
art books, or both -- still offers a little something extra for collectors, or those who don't like Steelbooks.
- Exclusive Packaging / Lithographs - As seen in these pictures, Target's exclusive 4K version of Luca includes a
variant fold-out slipcover with very colorful imagery that should look appealing to fans of the film. Also tucked inside the slipcover's "pocket"
are four shrink-wrapped matte-finish lithograph prints -- two portrait, two landscape -- depicting watercolor interpretations of various scenes from the
film. Oddly, both of the portrait-oriented prints can be used as postcards while the other two are blank on the reverse side. But either way, their visual
design is great and they'd look pretty good in a multi-panel frame, if that's your thing.
Luca 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Luca may not be Disney/Pixar's greatest effort -- even in recent years, when their formerly bulletproof run of top-rated productions has drifted
more regularly into "pretty good" territory -- but it's still fun and entertaining with colorful characters and very polished visuals. Similarly,
Target's exclusive 4K edition isn't their best work, either: the design elements are nice and all four lithographs look great too, but again this is more of
a
variant slipcover with printed pack-ins than a fully-realized effort. Nonetheless, it looks good and, with on-disc contents identical to the other 4K
editions, serves as a better option than the Blu-ray.
