Overview

Little Shop of Horrors 4K (1986)

The movie version of the hit musical based on the 1960 Roger Corman schlock sci-fi cult classic about a blood-craving plant from outer space that takes up residence in a Skid Row flower shop, under the care of nerdy Seymour Krelborne. For a time, the plant, which Seymour calls "Audrey II" after the girl of his dreams, pretends to be Seymour's friend, but then its true intentions are revealed.

Little Shop of Horrors 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

The original piranha plant.

Reviewed by Randy Miller III October 3, 2026

Available alongside the standard 4K release, Warner Bros. also offers this 4K Limited Edition Steelbook for packaging collectors. Both well-appointed options feature the same on-disc contents including both the Theatrical and Director's Cut of the film, a great new 4K remaster for both, a new Dolby Atmos remix, "original" 2.0 audio (Theatrical Cut only), and a nice assortment of extras. Much like the standard release, no Blu-ray copy of the film is included.

For an overview and appreciation of the film (which includes nods to the original 1960 cult classic as well as the 1982 off-off-Broadway musical which inspired this 1986 "remake"), please read Jeff Kauffman's Blu-ray review linked above. I fully agree with Jeff's take on Little Shop of Horrors and consider it to be a hugely entertaining musical with a great cast, memorable songs, and of course incredible effects work including "Audrey II", created and designed by the late, great Lyle Conway. Given Frank Oz's penchant for comedy and puppets, his direction is a perfect match.

NOTE: This review's screenshots are sourced from two new retrospective featurettes detailed below, which were unfortunately assembled before the recent 4K master was complete. Therefore, they should not be considered an accurate representation of the UHD's picture in terms of color, fine detail, or brightness levels.

For my thoughts on the new remaster, please see my review of the standard 4K release.

Likewise, thoughts about the audio options can be found at the review linked above.

Little Shop of Horrors 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  4.0 of 5

This one-disc release ships in a matte-finish Steelbook that takes its cues from the 2012 Blu-ray edition for the front cover, making Seymour (Rick Moranis) and Audrey II more prominent and adding a brick wall behind them. The generic title font of that older release has also now been replaced by the film's logo, which is admittedly a little squished once you remove the J-card. The back cover continues this image with a more menacing shadow of Audrey II hinting at the danger to come. The inside splash image simply offers a collage of moments from the film. It's a decent design but I prefer the standard 4K release's cover better for its color scheme and inclusion of supporting cast members.

As for the on-disc extras, they're identical to the 4K release linked above.

Little Shop of Horrors 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.5 of 5

Frank Oz's Little Shop of Horrors still plays great 40 years later, standing as a hugely impressive adaptation of what could only be described as very peculiar source material: a musical horror-comedy hybrid about a man (and woman) eating plant. It wouldn't be rivaled in this rare sub-genre until Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and of course both can comfortably co-exist. Four decades on, Warner Bros.' new UHD edition celebrates Little Shop's anniversary in style with a new 4K restoration of both cuts, new Dolby Atmos audio, and even a pair of new extras for good measure. Like the standard 4K release, this Steelbook variant is Highly Recommended.
