Lightyear 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman September 13, 2022Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive UHD SteelBook release for the 2022 animated film 'Lightyear.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Lightyear 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

Disney has done a great job on this SteelBook. The front and rear panels are smooth, and grayscale is the predominant color scheme. The front panel
depicts Buzz walking down a runway; the background is soft and hazy, but one can clearly make out some of the core location details. There is some
color on the familiarly designed space suit, including a few lights on the chest, but there is very little bright output; much of the suit is in shadow or
dominated by the grayscale. The film's title appears at the bottom, accompanied by "Disney Pixar" text. The film's title proper is debossed. The rear
panel is also very gray; it depicts a ship blasting off, seen from distance. The ship is center, and a fairly large sky expanse fills much of the panel; the
launch site fills the bottom-third. The spine is gray (darker in the middle). The film's title, as it appears on the front (minus the debossing) appears
center. An UltraHD logo appears at the top.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in
staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features Sox and Buzz on the left inside the cockpit of a spaceship. Part of
Buzz's spacesuit spills over to the right-hand side; the rest of the right is filled with background detail in the cockpit. Colors are not overtly vibrant here
but far more so than the front and rear panels.

Lightyear 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

What a great SteelBook! It's tonally spot-on, it's subtle in its attractiveness, and it's a worthy addition to every Pixar and SteelBook collection. Recommended.
