Lethal Weapon 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Spend some of your psycho pension on this one.

Reviewed by Randy Miller III July 3, 2025

Released the same week as its US 4K counterpart (which also got its own Steelbook variant), Warner Bros. has also made this Ultimate Collector's Edition 4K Steelbook available for UK buyers. American fans unafraid to import can get their hands on it too, which is great because this is most complete version available: not only does it include several packaging goodies for die-hard collectors, but we also get a Blu-ray copy of the film as well as the accompanying Blu-ray legacy extras that weren't included on the US 4K-only edition. Geez, the hoops we jump through...

Never forget those guys on the right.

For a synopsis and appreciation of Lethal Weapon, please see Kenneth Brown's review of Warner Bros.' 2006 Blu-ray edition, a supremely disappointing early-format release that was later eclipsed by one first created for the UK and later included with the studio's 2012 US Blu-ray collection. (Incidentally, that latter disc is the Blu-ray that's included in this set... and while a newly-restored disc obviously would've been even better, this is WB we're talking about.)

For separate reviews of the included UHD and Blu-ray discs, see our coverage of the recent US 4K edition (written by me) as well the 2012 Lethal Weapon Blu-ray Collection (written by Kenneth Brown) -- it's the same Blu-ray included here with a dated but decent VC-1 encoded 1.78:1 transfer as seen in these direct-from disc screenshots.

Lethal Weapon 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  3.5 of 5

This two-disc release ships in Steelbook packaging that's more or less identical to the US 4K Steelbook (albeit with a brighter red tone and debossing on the "bullet holes", as well as an overlapping hub for the Blu-ray) but features a few added layers of design and exclusive pack-in goodies. These include three behind-the-scenes cards and three character cards, as well as a folded A3 double-sided poster featuring separate English and Japanese designs, which are all held inside a thick, glossy, and decorative gray envelope that's tucked inside an outer box along with the Steelbook.

The outer packaging is a rigid and predominantly black slipcase with a familiar close-up of our two heroes in black and white, slightly marred by ratings logos at the bottom and given an admittedly odd spot-gloss treatment on their eyes. The spot-gloss effect also extends to the red Lethal Weapon logo on the spine as well as similar "LW" text on the back. The slipcase itself is covered by a clear slipcover bearing the logo and a second "target" with smiley-face bullet holes dead-center and disc info listed on the back. It's got a nice weight and feels very substantial in-hand; dimensionally, this is similar to a normal release in height and width, and it's just a little thicker than two keepcases.

For details about the on-disc bonus features, please see our reviews of the recent US 4K edition as well as the 2012 Lethal Weapon Blu-ray Collection. They're listed below with times and basic descriptions for your convenience.

4K DISC

  • A Legacy of Inspiration: Remembering Dick Donner (7:00) - new retrospective featurette

  • "I'm Too Old for This...": A Chemistry That Became Iconic (6:06) - new retrospective featurette

BLU-RAY DISC

  • Audio Commentary - with director Richard Donner

  • Deleted Scenes (29:44) - 14 clips, including some not included in the Director's Cut

  • Music Video (3:22) - "Lethal Weapon" by Honeymoon Suite

  • Theatrical Trailer (1:27)

Lethal Weapon 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

While it's annoying that Warner Bros. continues to make these Ultimate Collector's Editions available in almost every region except North America, die-hard fans of Lethal Weapon will want to import this UK release while it's still available. Not only does it have better design elements than the US 4K Steelbook (and only costs a few bucks more, if you know where to look), but it also has several pack-in goodies as well as a Blu-ray copy of the film which includes a few legacy extras that are otherwise exclusive to the 2012 Lethal Weapon Blu-ray Collection. Recommended.
