Leprechaun: The Complete Movie Collection Blu-ray Movie Review

Those of us of a certain age will probably most associate leprechauns with a certain “magically delicious” cereal, while musical theater buffs may wax nostalgic about the imp in Finian’s Rainbow, but for horror fans the term “little green man” doesn’t necessarily refer to a nasty alien, but instead to a murderous Irish sprite who really doesn’t like his gold messed with, rainbow’s end or not. For ten years between 1993 and 2003, a perhaps unlikely six visits with a malevolent Leprechaun unfolded on screens of various sizes, and now there’s a somewhat questionable reboot courtesy of Leprechaun: Origins. Lionsgate has assembled all of the Leprechaun outings (thus far) in this new package, providing a treasure trove of sorts for horror fans who like a little whimsy and black humor with their fright fests.

The Leprechaun series hardly aims to be grand cinema, but for what it is--namely, a kind of patently wacky goof on horror films-- the series provides both laughs and scares in decent amounts. Lionsgate has done this little (sorry) series proud, with generally strong transfers and some good supplementary material. For fans of the franchise if for no one else, Leprechaun: The Complete Film Series comes Recommended.
