Kinmoza Pretty Days is an engaging follow-up special OVA episode. The OVA is a continuation of the original series broadcast on Tokyo MX. Created by Yui Hara, Kinmoza Pretty Days brings back the charming cast of characters. The series features animation produced by Studio Gokumi (Tsuredure Children, Yuki Yuna Is a Hero). Produced by Fumiki Yamazaki (Black Bullet, Blue Drop), Hiroyuki Kobayashi (Castle Town Dandelion, The Demon Girl Next Door), Mitsuhiro Matsuo (Wanna Be the Strongest in the World, The Familiar of Zero), Sachi Kawamoto (House of Five Leaves, Gourmet Girl Graffiti), Shigeaki Komatsu (Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040, Bamboo Blade), Shingo Yokota (Non Non Biyori Repeat, Dragonar Academy), and Youhei Hayashi (Aria the Scarlet Ammo, Girls und Panzer), Kinmoza Pretty Days is a must-see follow up to the original series. Fans won’t want to miss this engaging continuation.

Shinobu Ōmiya (Asuka Nishi) is tasked with a daunting new school project: it is her mission to design the costumes and write the script for a stage play her school is producing. Can Shinobu somehow manage balancing the sewing and writing duties? The task seems monumental and the challenge tests her abilities. Yet with the help of her best friends Aya Komichi (Risa Taneda), Yōko Inokuma (Yumi Uchiyama), and Alice Cartelet (Manami Tanaka), Shinobu can handle the task at hand. A big adventure awaits! The stage is set.

One of the central components of the success of Kinmoza Pretty Days is the returning cast of characters. The central cast are essential to the essence of the production. The lead characters are at the heart of the production and what makes audiences relate to the series. The characters have unique and fun personalities. These characters and their relationships drive the storytelling.

The animation is top-notch. The special OVA episode features stunning art direction from Chikako Shibata (Chobits, Fruits Basket). The animation is every bit as beautiful as it was during the series. Background animation is nicely detailed. The animators use a colorful and vibrant landscape for showcasing the story. The animators delivered their best for the OVA.

A return to the series roots.

The character designs by Kazuyuki Ueda (Hinako Note, BanG Dream!) continue to highlight the unique personalities and charms of the characters. Ueda crafted successful character designs that were well done for the production. The art style is distinctive and befitting the series and the slice-of-life genre.

The cinematography by Hyeon Dae Song (With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun, Magi: Adventure of Sinbad) is exquisite. Kinmoza Pretty Days is a beautiful looking production with a lot of crisp, colorful, and engaging art. The animation is well lit and the art style certainly is enhanced by the sharp visual elements of cinematographer Dae Song.

The original score composed by Ruka Kawada (Is the order a rabbit?, If Her Flag Breaks) is beautiful and majestic. The score certainly fits the anime production well. The score is a great effort from Kawada. A excellent choice for the composer of the series. The music enhances the storytelling and is one of the greatest attributes of the special.

Written by Tatsuya Takahashi (Dropout Idol Fruit Tart, Domestic Girlfriend), Kinmoza Pretty Days is a entertaining continuation. The story follows the original series run and adds something new to the anime. Takahashi has fun with the characters and the world. The script is charming fun.

Directed by Tensho (The Eden of Grisaia, Azur Lane), Kinmoza Pretty Days is certainly a solid follow-up with plenty to offer series fans. The directing is solid and capably brings to life a new chapter in the anime storytelling universe. Tensho is a gifted filmmaker and the special episode does a great job highlighting the strengths of the production and the cast of characters.

Arriving on Blu-ray from Sentai Filmworks, Kinmoza Pretty Days is presented in the original aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. The release is excellent and capably preserves the original animation for the production. The art is beautifully reproduced. The colors are vivid and engaging. The encoding is top-notch on the release. The encode is a great showcase for the artistry of the animators. An excellent effort from Sentai.

Kinmoza! Pretty Days Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality 

The release is presented in Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 stereo (with English subtitles). The lossless audio quality sounds superb. The audio presentation preserves the soundstage. The OVA original score is well reproduced and integrated in to the stereo mix. Dialogue is clear on the release. While dub fans might be a little disappointed the release does not include an English dub language option, the original Japanese audio is exceptional. An excellent audio presentation from Sentai Filmworks.

Kinmoza Pretty Days is a wonderful and charming continuation of the original series. The OVA episode is enormously entertaining. The episode has plenty of the same delights that made the original series an entertaining production. The characters remain at the core of the production and key to the success behind the series. The animation is excellent as well – with bold and colorful art. The Blu-ray has exceptional video and audio. The release includes a selection of extras (including a brief short). Recommended.
