Dave Lizewski, a comic-book fanboy, decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name -- Kick-Ass -- assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There's only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers. His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl and her father, Big Daddy.

Lionsgate Limited is potentially throwing prospective consumers for yet another loop, at least for those looking for some kind of "branding" consistency in their releases, which are especially unusual this month. Among the peculiarities is this "15th Anniversary" edition of Kick-Ass in new SteelBook packaging, a film which Lionsgate previously released in a combo 4K / 1080 package way back in 2017 (I link to my review, below). While the disc in this package has new silk screened art and boots to a new menu image, while also offering some new supplements, presentationally this struck me as identical to the previous release. Adding to the "intrigue" (at least for marketing majors) is the fact that in this particular instance, Lionsgate does not include a 1080 disc. Because this is basically a repackaging, this review will simply offer hi res photos of the SteelBook, as well as a list of supplements.

I've marked the new supplements with an asterisk (*).

This particular Lionsgate Limited release is probably inevitably going to be a trade off of sorts for fans. The new supplements and the SteelBook packaging are definite pluses, but no 1080 disc and the loss of at least some supplements is a potential minus. Taken on the whole, Recommended.
