Jurassic World: Dominion 3D brings fans of the dinosaur action-adventure franchise a last outing to wrap up the series. Produced by Patrick Crowley (Jurassic World, The Bourne Ultimatum) and Frank Marshall (Signs, Congo), Jurassic World: Dominion 3D is best experienced on 3D Blu-ray and is breathtaking with immersive 3D depth throughout. From a story by Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly and based on the characters created by Michael Crichton, Jurassic World: Dominion 3D is a must-see action-adventure for fans of the franchise.
Jurassic World: Dominion features an all-star cast including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, DeWanda Wise, Mamoudou Athie, Isabella Sermon, Campbell Scott, and BD Wong. The adventure was millions of years in the making. At last, the adventure has arrived.
Returning heroes Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) encounter new and exciting adventures with dinosaurs roaming the world. The final epic in the Jurassic World film franchise, Jurassic World: Dominion also brings together the original cast of characters from the Jurassic franchise: Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), Alan Grant (Sam Neill), and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum).
The world is overrun with dinosaurs and there are higher stakes than before. Can the dinosaurs stop civilization or can humanity salvage the remnants of the formerly extinct dinosaurs to form a better tomorrow for everyone on the planet? Jurassic World Dominion also stars DeWanda Wise as Kayla Watts, Mamoudou Athie as Ramsay Cole, and Isabella Sermon as Maisie Lockwood.
Lewis Dodgson (Campbell Scott) has grand plans for dinosaurs yet the dinosaurs might have even bigger plans for him. The stakes of civilization collapsing are high and the only thing standing between life and disaster are Dodgson, Henry Wu (BD Wong), and the heroes of the tale – with Owen Grady, Claire Dearing, and Maisie Lockwood joining Ellie Sattler, Alan Grant, and Ian Malcolm for one last epic adventure.
The best thing about Jurassic World: Dominion is the returning cast members. It is wonderful to at last have all three of the main cast members return for another adventure together. This was one aspect which felt meaningful to me on a significant level and made the film far more entertaining as a thrill ride.
In the years following the original Jurassic Park, none of the sequels have ever included all three original cast members in one movie and this is something that has been a bit surprising at times –only Jeff Goldblum returned in the second installment and both Laura Dern and Sam Neill returned in Jurassic Park III. The return of all three of the original cast members was wonderful and made the film feel a lot more special when compared to any of the other sequels (most especially in the Jurassic World series of films). Isabella Sermon is terrific in her role here as well and has an interesting character arc enhancing the story.
"Ready for your close-up?"
The best thing about the entire Jurassic World sequel saga has been the exceptional scores of composer Michael Giacchino (The Batman, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol). Giacchino is a brilliant composer: gifted, dedicated, and creative. The score is energetic and thrilling throughout the entire film (with a surprising number of sequences featuring a spy-like atmosphere that provided Giacchino a chance to recall his Alias television roots).
The epic last hour of Jurassic World: Dominion is a brilliant showcase for how great an epic score composer Giacchino is. Next to John Williams, there is no better film composer in the entire film industry. Giacchino has long been my favorite film composer and he follows in the foot-steps of John Williams with an expertly crafted score and there is never a dull moment.
The cinematography by John Schwartzman (Armageddon, Pearl Harbor) is surprisingly exceptional and better than anticipated. Jurassic World: Dominion is a beautifully lensed film and there are a lot of fun sequences that stand out all the better with the use of the creative cinematographic style. Many of the best scenes are dark but well-lit and the use of color is well pronounced (such as the deep reds of one sequence) without overshadowing any important details. Cinematographer Schwartzman did a top-notch job here and Jurassic World: Dominion looks great from beginning to end.
There are some other outstanding production elements. The production design by Kevin Jenkins (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) is thrilling in every way possible with epic sequences staged within the framework of great traditional sets and designs. This is easily one of the best elements of the film. During a dinosaur chase sequence across roof-tops, Bryce Dallas Howard leaps across a beautiful production landscape. During the epic finale, the juxtaposition of natural environmental shots alongside sets (with the entire cast assembled) provides a surprisingly organic and realistic vibe even while there is an abundance of CGI in these scenes.
Compared to the previous Jurassic World franchise entry (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Jurassic World Dominion showcases a significant improvement in special effects. For one thing, the film is returning to a nice combination of practical/traditional special effects (using models) and CGI. An abundance of CGI doesn’t overshadow the fact that some of the best shots in the film were made utilizing actual models (including some great shots of dinosaur teeth right beside the entire main cast). These moments are much more effective and engaging than what was done with the second Jurassic World installment.
The screenplay by Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim: Uprising) and co-screenwriter Colin Trevorrow is an entertaining spectacle. Jurassic World: Dominion offers a blend of action-adventure with spy action elements (during the first half) with far more dinosaur- centric moments in the second-half of the film. Jurassic World: Dominion breaks expectations here and isn’t as focused solely on dinosaur action but I enjoyed the balance of styles contrasted in the film. The action builds and the last act of the film is all the more entertaining for it.
Jurassic World Dominion 3D is a great showcase for the skills of director Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World, Safety Not Guaranteed). Trevorrow is a far more gifted filmmaker than some critics have suggested. A talented filmmaker with a keen visual sensibility, Jurassic World: Dominion 3D delivers both action and emotional gravitas with the best sequences recalling the original film. Jurassic World: Dominion 3D is a great finale and one that is easily the best of the three Jurassic World films.

Arriving on 3D Blu-ray, Jurassic World: Dominion 3D is presented in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.00:1. The 1080p MPEG-4 MVC encoded presentation is exceptional. 3D fans will find this to be a fun and thrilling 3D presentation – one that rivals the best of the entire franchise. Unlike Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic World: Dominion has a top-notch 3D presentation and is a huge step-up compared to the 3D on the previous franchise entry. The 3D here is so much better and a huge improvement in all the right ways.
3D depth is excellent and even without too many pop-out 3D elements, the depth alone is top-notch and far more rewarding than in the previous franchise entry. The 3D Blu-ray looks even better on my OLED 65E6P reference 3D display in comparison to the IMAX 3D viewing that I had in movie theaters. The 3D is startingly crisp, detailed, and vivid. Color reproduction is great. Detail looks terrific. The 3D effects are exceptional and it pulls one in to the film with total ease. An outstanding 3D presentation and one that is reference-worthy for 3D fans.
The release includes a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound presentation. The lossless audio sound mix is exceptional and is a great accompaniment to the 3D presentation. I didn't miss the lack of Atmos audio. The dynamics of DTS HD MA are much more rewarding for audio purists who like a little extra LFE and more pure bass support. The surrounds are actively engaged and there are plenty of show-stopping moments with the sound staging. The score is crisp and breathtakingly integrated in to the sound design. Dialogue remains clear and easy to understand. A wonderful lossless audio sound mix.
The release includes the same supplemental package provided on the standard Blu-ray release of Jurassic World: Dominion. These bonus features are accessible on the standard Blu-ray included within the 3D/2D Blu-ray package. The 3D Blu-ray disc does not provide any supplemental features on the main 3D disc as it leaves more breathing room for the 3D presentation of the film. For more information, please refer to the standard Blu-ray review by my colleague Martin Liebman.
Jurassic World: Dominion 3D brings the epic dinosaur franchise to a close. The filmmaking is exciting (with plenty of spectacle) and the return of the original cast members makes the film all the more relevant and worthwhile. Seeing Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum together again was a wondrous thing.
Director Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) made a great send-off for the Jurassic series, providing an epic conclusion with plenty of adventure and spectacle – including an epic dinosaur battle involving a Giganotosaurus. The 3D Blu-ray has top-notch 3D and high quality audio. 3D enthusiasts should consider it an essential release. A must-own for 3D fans. Highly recommended.
