Jurassic World 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

The first film in the 'Jurassic World' trilogy, 'Jurassic World' returns to 4K UHD disc courtesy of Universal. Previously only available in two multi-disc sets, the Jurassic World Trilogy: Limited Edition SteelBook 4K, and the Jurassic World: 7-Movie Collection 4K, the latest iteration of the film, with both a Dolby Atmos audio track and a new 2160p presentation with Dolby Vision, is now a standalone release. With a cast that includes Chris Pratt ('Guardians of the Galaxy'), and Bryce Dallas Howard ('Pete's Draqon'), nature continues to find a way, with the theme park once again becoming a deadly destination and a visit turning into a fight for survival in an environment filled with previously extinct dinosaurs. A foil enhanced slipcover, a Blu-ray disc, and a Digital Code redeemable via Movies Anywhere are also included.

Jurassic World 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

Jurassic World has a number of new on-disc supplemental features, as detailed below.

• Classic 'Jurassic' (7.25) - Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and others involved in Jurassic World discuss the impact of the first film, intermixed with clips from both films and behind-the-scenes footage of the new cast.

• Building the Gyrosphere (4.27) - Production Designer Edward Verreaux and others talk about the unique vehicle's design and construction.

• Your Host for 'Jurassic World'...Jimmy Fallon (2.40) - Captured on the SNL set, go behind the scenes of filming Jimmy Fallon as he welcomes riders into the Gyrosphere.

• Jurassic Props (9.51) - Guillaume Delouche, Property Master, discusses manufacturing all of the various and sundry items that infuse the park with a feeling of reality, before moving on to weapons, ammunition, and the addition of exotic animals to add complexity to the lab.

• The Experts (5.36) - This segment focuses on the actual science that adds reality to the film.

• The Sounds and the Fury (12.52) - Consulting Sound Designer Gary Rydstrom and others discuss making the dinosaurs audibly come to life, and building a massive library of sounds to accomplish that task. Time is also spent on the score.

Jurassic World 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

The addition of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are welcome upgrades that enhance the viewing experience in what is likely the best film of the second trilogy. Fast paced and well-cast, there's never a slow moment, with increasing levels of dinosaur-related mayhem as the film progresses. The dinosaurs are a pleasant mix of old favorites and new menaces to keep audiences engaged, and the film sets up the sequels well. Fans of the franchise who have been hesitant to pick up one of the previous multi-film sets with the new 4K UHD disc should be pleased, and the new stand-alone release of Jurassic World 4K comes highly recommended.
