Jurassic Park Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman May 27, 2018

This DigiBook set houses all four of the currently released (at time of writing) films in the 'Jurassic Park' series. The set is good but not great. The picture quality varies quite wildly amongst the four films, though none looks egregiously bad. Audio is a little more stabilized as all four films hover near the top end of the audio spectrum. Perhaps most disappointing, no new bonuses are included; this would have seemed a great time to cobble together a new disc's worth of content and maybe toss in a teaser or two for the upcoming 'Fallen Kingdom.' As it is, the set is fine, but it's a relatively low effort release, all things considered.

Jurassic Park Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  4.0 of 5

This eight-disc Jurassic Park collection DigiBook set comes housed in a sturdy slip box that feels solid in the hand. The front artwork is taken from an iconic moment from near the end of Jurassic Park while the rear side offers a sepia-toned panel showing dinosaur fossils in the museum. The box does feature embossed (raised) lettering on the top, spine, and the logo on the front. It's very much similar -- identical, practically, beyond width -- to the companion SteelBook release which is larger to accommodate the added mass of the two SteelBooks.

The main attraction, of course, is the DigiBook packaging inside. Its front and back covers, and spine, are made of a similar, if not identical, material much like that of the slip box that houses it. It feels good in the hand, weighty, and is not prone to bending or breaking unless someone forces the issue. It will stand up to years of enjoyment. Unlike the cover, however, there is no embossing on the book itself.

Opening reveals equally hearty leafs that hold the discs. Each film earns two full-length spreads, or four panels per film. Full-color artwork -- both poster art and images from each film -- accompany the glossy panels. Below the posters are brief plot synopses, and the bottom of each fourth panel contains a list of included bonus content. The discs are housed on each right-side panel, slipping into an opening and removing with little effort, though fingerprinting the bottom of the disc is all but unavoidable. Each page conveniently features either the Blu-ray or UHD logo at the top to easily identify which disc is stored where. It's a nice DigiBook, but the downside -- perhaps omitted due to the already rather large package -- is that there are no text essays or other points of interest inside.

A Movies Anywhere digital copy code is included with purchase.

Jurassic Park Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

Though it lacks any extra points of interest -- essay, sketches, cast and crew bios -- this DigiBook is an attractive enclosure for the Jurassic Park films. The discs require no special effort to remove (though edge fingerprints are inevitable), the artwork is fine, and the building materials are sturdy. The films range from enjoyable to classic, the UHD transfers range from fair to fantastic, the audio is uniformly strong, and the extras are plentiful, albeit legacy. Recommended, though it would be nice if Universal gave at least the first film in the series the TLC it deserves.
