Jumanji: The Next Level 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman March 20, 2020

Sony and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for the sequel adventure film 'Jumanji: The Next Level.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Jumanji: The Next Level 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  2.5 of 5

Jumanji: The Next Level's SteelBook promises big adventure on its front cover, depicting its four main characters -- Dr. Bravestone, Ruby Roundhouse, Mouse, and Professor Oberon -- hanging from a rope, the former two looking ready for action, Mouse a bit fearful, and the good professor terrified. They're being chased by a handful of mandrills, recreating one of the film's biggest action set pieces. Mountainous peaks appear throughout the background with Jurgen the Brutal's stronghold top left. The rear side is simply a collection of mandrills, seven about fully visible and a few more along the edges. Both front and rear panels are slick, smooth, and will show handling fingerprints. There is also a mild metallic reflectivity to the front, which makes it look like the characters are slightly separated from the background. The spine is a glossy black color with the film's title in familiarly colored and stylized print, center. A Sony Pictures logo has been placed at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features the four main characters -- Mouse, Bravestrone, Ruby Roundhouse, and Professor Oberon, left to the right respectively -- firmly on the left hand side; only the professor's left arm reaches the spine. Behind them is a desert landscape, which extends through the entirety of the right-hand side. The top quarter-to-third of the interior is blue sky.

Jumanji: The Next Level 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

This is a fun SteelBook. It fits the movie's tone quite nicely, the front panel in particular. One could imagine doing something a little more involved for the inside, but at least the main imagery is on the left and not buried underneath the discs. The 4K video and audio qualities are excellent. Recommended.
