Jumanji Blu-ray Movie Review

Sony has re-released 'Jumanji' to Blu-ray in celebration of its 20th anniversary. This edition contains several new bonus features in addition to all of the content from the older release. Jumanji Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality 

This 20th anniversary Blu-ray re-release of Jumanji appears, by all accounts, to offer the same transfer found on the 2011 release. Sony has made no mention of a new presentation either in press materials or on the Blu-ray packaging. Screenshots have been selected to correspond to those from the older release.

Jumanji Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality 

This 20th anniversary Blu-ray re-release of Jumanji appears to maintain the same DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack as that heard on its previously released counterpart. All audio and subtitle options remain identical across the two releases.

Jumanji Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

This 20th anniversary Blu-ray re-release of Jumanji arrives with a combination of new and legacy bonus materials. Gone is the included DVD copy (replaced here with a voucher for a UV digital copy), the Sony previews collage, and the long-abandoned BD-Live functionality. • The Cast of Goosebumps Reflects on Jumanji (1080p, 5:19): Dylan Minnette and Ryan Lee share a few thoughts on Jumanji, followed by a preview for Goosebumps.

Jumanji Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

Frankly, there's not much here to make this worth an upgrade, even if the animated episodes are fun and the Chris Van Allsburg reading will please fans of the original book. The rest of the content is nothing more than advertising for the Goosebumps movie. This is certainly the version to buy for fans who have yet to add Jumanji to their Blu-ray collections, but previous owners should stick with what they have.
