John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman September 18, 2019

Lionsgate and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for Director Chad Stahelski's violent Action sequel 'John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

The SteelBook's design resembles a painting made of abstract splatter but that creates a very identifiable image of Keanu Reeves' John Wick. The face and white collar and black tie are clearly defined while the cover's periphery is made of shades of red and blue. It's a visually effective mess that compliments the movie's tone quite well. The rear panel is stylistically much the same, with the red and blue splatter prominent around the edges and, with a smaller middle image, towards the center. In the middle portion is a collection of various rifles, handguns, and brass knuckles macing a quasi circular-type pattern behind a cross. There's a little bit of legalese at the bottom. The spine maintains the same splatter style and coloration. The film's title appears center in large red ("John Wick") and white ("Keanu Reeves," "3 Parabellum") letters, the only place on the glossy, slick, and smooth outer shell where any text beyond the aforementioned legalese appears. A tiny Lionsgate logo appears at the spine's bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, each appear on their own hub on either side. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a metallic gray wall that's home to a variety weapons: rifles, shotguns, handguns, knives, and swords, all appearing as if from different eras. Cool! There's also a "Limited Edition" sticker on the top right. The SteelBook is limited to a quantity of 35,000, probably plenty to go around.

This is pretty nice SteelBook. It's tastefully messy and very complimentary to the movie's tone. It's unique, it stands out on the shelf, and it's complex without feeling forced or overdone. Well done. The on-disc content is very solid, too. Highly recommended.
