Jaws Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Justin Dekker July 11, 2025

In time for the 50th Anniversary of the landmark film, 'Jaws' returns to Blu-ray disc in this Walmart Exclusive TV Screen Slipcover Edition. This release features same disc found in this release, from over a decade ago. and as such shares the same audio and video presentations, as well as the on-disc supplemental features. Along with the 1080p Blu-ray disc, this slipcovered release includes a Digital Code redeemable through Movies Anywhere. For a discussion of the slipcover, please scroll down to the 'Special Features and Extras' section.

While the back of the insert looks the same as this release, the UPC underneath is different. Both, however, share all of the same specifications and on-disc supplements as this release, and readers are encouraged to follow that link for an appreciation of the film.

Made to look like a family room from days gone by, a vintage console television dominates the middle of the slipcover. On the screen the classic poster art for the film is displayed, with the massive shark rising up directly beneath the lone female swimmer, it's toothy jaws open. On top the television, a model ship sits on the right, while a stack of VHS tapes sits on the left. A life preserver ring sits on the floor and leans against the lower left-hand corner of the television set. The films title, printed in large red block letters, is centered above the television set in a field of black. The letters are behind the shimmering, gold rabbit-ear antennae that perch on top of the set. That shimmering effect is created by a gold foil accent that also covers the beveled edge of the television screen's frame and other metallic elements of the housing for the set's various dials and knobs. The spines are simply home to the film's title in red block letters centered in a field of black. The Blu-ray logo is the top, while Universal's logo is at the bottom. The reverse image captures much, but not all, of the information from the back of the case's insert and shares the same stills from the film.

Jaws Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

Part of a line of releases that each possess similar slipcovers, this new Jaws Walmart Exclusive TV Screen Slipcover Edition would be more appealing had it housed the Jaws 4K 50th Anniversary Edition. Since it houses a disc identical to the Blu-ray disc from over a decade ago, it's a appeal may be more limited, though one can hardly argue with the price point. And the slip is certainly eye-catching and nostalgic. Some may choose to pick up a copy simply for the slipcover and slide it over the new 4K disc, but it's appeal will likely be primarily limited to devoted slipcover enthusiasts and those looking for a budget-friendly release of the film. To them, this release comes recommended.
