Interstellar 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman October 14, 2020

Paramount and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for Director Christopher Nolan's 2014 Sci-Fi film 'Interstellar.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Interstellar 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  3.5 of 5

Paramount's SteelBook is slick and smooth and holds fingerprints, but they are not readily evident thanks to the color scheme. The front panel features Cooper, center, in a space suit, along with two other astronauts, Doyle and Brand, standing in the water on an alien world. Their landing craft is behind them. The film's title is top center in the familiar style. Four actor names -- McConaughey, Hathaway, Chastain, and Cain -- appear at the top, while "a film by Christopher Nolan" text appears in between. The rear panel simply carries over the image of the watery horizon meeting a sky which grows increasingly darker towards the top. A billing block appears at the bottom, filling a third or so of the space. There's also a SteelBook logo bottom center. The spine again continues with the image seen front and back. The film's title appears center. A Blu-ray logo has been placed at the top and a Paramount logo can be found at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that depicts Cooper and his daughter Murphy looking up at the sky. They are far right, bottom, with the farm house center, bottom, and a starry sky above.

Interstellar 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

This appears to be the same SteelBook Paramount released in 2015 as a Target exclusive and, in fact, all of the pertinent copyright information on the back matches up, so it seems the studio has just repurposed existing product. It's a nice looking SteelBook inside and out that highlights the movie's style without delving too deep into its intricacies. It's a nice teaser and it works well. Of course the movie is is terrific and the UHD is of near-reference quality. Highly recommended.
