Hunter Killer 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman August 19, 2019
Lionsgate and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for Director Donovan Marsh's wartime mashup movie 'Hunter
Killer.' The disc and digital content is identical to that
found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below
for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Hunter Killer 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

The SteelBook is built with a tactile texture on its outer shell. It's not glossy and will not show fingerprints. The front image depicts the
Arkansas at surface level,
appearing at a downward angle as if ready to dive into the water. A large explosion frames her in the rear, and the film's title appears top-center with
actor names -- Gerard Butler and Gary Oldman --
above. The rear panel depicts what appears to be a torpedo screaming through the water with concentric circles as part of a grid behind it. Some
legalese appears bottom-center in unobtrusive white lettering. The spine features the film's title in white block letters, center, in front of a dark
background. Lionsgate, Summit, and
UHD logos appear at the bottom.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the left and the
right, each enjoying their own space and hub. Both discs share identical artwork beyond format labeling. The inner print is a two-panel spread that
features the Arkansas starring down a Russian Destroyer, recreating a key scene from the film's third act.

Hunter Killer 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Hunter Killer may be derivative and imperfect, but it's also fun, a mostly enjoyable and at times slightly unpredictable film with quality action
and drama throughout. The film's UHD SteelBook release is nothing special, looking a little chintzy and
unimaginative on the front and rear panels, like a cheap novel rather than a multimillion dollar movie. The inner print is the nicest part if only because
of its more subtle nature. At least fans are spared the mainline release's floating heads.
Recommended.
