How to Train Your Dragon 2 Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman February 19, 2019
With its acquisition of the DreamWorks catalogue, Universal has released the fan-favorite animated sequel 'How to Train Your Dragon 2' to
Blu-ray. The studio's release of the series' first film featured identical video as found on the old Paramount release but
offered
a different soundtrack and fiddled with the included supplemental content. 20th Century Fox released 'How to Train Your Dragon 2' to Blu-ray in 2014 but, unlike Universal's
release of the
original film, this appears to be a direct port, offering the same language and subtle options, the same extras, and seemingly the same transfer. I do
not have access to an actual copy of the Fox release but all evidence points to there being no changes. This review exists simply as a portal for linking
to the actual Blu-ray disc included with Universal's UHD release of the film.

It's been five years since Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel) befriended, tamed, and trained his dragon, Toothless. Their friendship revolutionized the
Vikings' relationships with the dragons. Now, the two species live together and in harmony, and even Hiccup's father Stoick the Vast (voiced by
Gerard Butler) has realized the befits of the Viking-dragon relationship and is reaping the rewards with his own dragon companion. Hiccup and
Toothless spend their time methodically charting the world around them. On one of their adventures, with Hiccup's girlfriend Astrid (voiced by
America Ferrera) in tow, they discover a band of dragon trappers led by a man named Eret (voiced by Kit Harington) who operates under a man
named Drago (voiced by Djimon Hounsou) who is building an army of dragons for nefarious purposes. When Hiccup's father hears word of what his
son has found, he immediately amasses an army to defeat Drago and his men. Hiccup frantically attempts to avert the coming war which leads him to
a surprise reconnection with a past he never knew and towards a fate he could never believe.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

For whatever reason, Universal fiddled with the Paramount release for How to Train Your Dragon when porting it over but appears to have
dropped the same disc Fox released for How to Train Your Dragon 2. Universal has at least priced this disc right, and it can also be found in
the UHD release of the film. Recommended.
