Following King Aegon II’s coronation and the death of Queen Rhaenyra’s son, House Targaryen is divided in two. Civil war looms as both sides seek support from the great houses of Westeros, ultimately amassing armies. And dragons.

In what has become something of a tradition for both Game of Thrones and this series, HBO and Warner Brothers Home Entertainment are offering some alternate packaging choices, in this case a nicely designed SteelBook. The disc contents match the House of the Dragon: The Complete Second Season 4K wide release. Interestingly, this SteelBook also offers the bonus "character cards", but unlike both the wide 4K release and HBO's 1080 release of the second season, there's no oversized slipcover over both the keepcase and cards that quite probably will arrive bent (see my reviews of the wide releases for more details about the packaging choices).

The bounteous on disc supplements are detailed in the above linked review. This SteelBook fits right in with the many previous SteelBooks offered during the "reign" of both Game of Thrones and now this series. A nice matte finish offers dragons in the form of a sigil on the front panel and a salient quote on the back panel (a quote which is also repeated on the packet holding the character cards). Sparks igniting a perhaps imminent conflagration fill the bottom part of both the outside panels. The inside panels feature a picture of some of the principal cast. The art cards and their packet were simply stacked on top of the SteelBook when my copy arrived, so finding a place to store them may be a bit of a challenge.
I was pretty spectacularly surprised at how much of a letdown the second season of this series turned out to be, but on the plus side, technical merits are first rate, the supplements many in number (if often quite short), and this SteelBook design evocative and perfectly in line with the many other SteelBooks of this particular franchise (including Game of Thrones), for anyone who may be considering making a purchase.
