Him 4K Collector's Edition Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Justin Dekker November 18, 2025

Produced by Jordan Peele ('Get Out', 'Us'), 'Him' arrives on 4K UHD disc in this new SteelBook courtesy of Universal. The film stars Tyriq Withers ('I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)') as a young man hoping to make it as a professional football player, alongside Marlon Wayans ('Dungeons & Dragons') and Julia Fox ('Uncut Gems'). The disc features impressive technical merits and an interesting mix of on-disc supplemental features. A Blu-ray disc, and a Digital Code redeemable via Movies Anywhere are also included. Please scroll down to the 'Special Features and Extras' section below for a discussion of the new SteelBook.

The new Him: Collector's Edition SteelBook 4K features one of the film's most haunting images as its wraparound cover. Are they makeshift scarecrows? Targets for a shooting range? Or, are they some sort of bloodstained football equivalent of a crucifixion? Based on the rampant symbolism throughout the film and the story's themes, it's hard to be certain. But, regardless of what it is, it's a moment that lingers with the viewer. White's blood-soaked jersey and helmet are on a cross of sorts, and front and and center. Above them sits the film's title in its red, stylized font. The title is both debossed and spot-glossed. The spine and back complete the image, with eight other complete or partial scarecrows/targets/crucifixes visible in the remote patch of desert. Blown-out blues and yellows dominate the color scheme. The film's title is in red on the spine. Opening the SteelBook, the Digital Code is found under the tabs on the left side. On the right side, the 4K UHD disc and the Blu-ray disc, each containing the feature film and bonus material, are stagger-stacked, each on its own hub, with the 4K UHD disc on top. Removing the discs and the code reveals a two-panel X-ray image from the film of a violent collision between two players at White's training facility. As with the cover, it's another of the film's most memorable visual moments. Other than the debossed and spot-glossed title, the rest of the SteelBook's exterior has a matte finish which should resist fingerprints associated with normal handling. It's a great design.

Him has been provided with a commendable mix of on-disc supplemental features as detailed below.

  • Alternate Ending: Zay's Nightmare (2:13) - This dark scene shows what might have been. It's the source of screenshot #6.
  • Deleted End Credits Scene (1:07) - "Food or Freedom"
  • Deleted Scenes (13:19) - Five deleted scenes are included: "Cheers", Don't be a Mascot", The Publicist", "Fantasy Football", and "Cam's Discovery".
  • Becoming Them (9:07) - Learn how Withers and Wayans transformed themselves into the athletes they portray in the film.
  • The Sport of Filmmaking (10:10) - This feature gives fans a look at how the film was crafted.
  • Anatomy of a Scene (4:25) - "A Diabolical Game of Catch"
  • Anatomy of a Scene (4:53) - "Rebirth"
  • Hymns of a G.O.A.T. (4;36) - Composer Bobby Krlic details his methods of creating tension and terror through his score.
  • Feature Commentary - Director/Co-writer Justin Tipping provides viewers an enjoyable and informative listening experience that provides a great amount of detail on the production, his inspirations for hat made it to the screen, costuming, set decoration, the stars, and other topics. He's occasionally silent, but not for very long. It's a great insight into his vision for the project and its execution.

Him 4K Collector's Edition Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

Over its runtime, Him throws a number of balls in the air. While it manages to juggle many of them, some hit the ground only to occasionally bounce back up into the film's field of vision. At it's heart, the (American) football body horror elements succeed, due to Wayans' performance and the the infusion of the supernatural/Satanic elements. When viewed in through the lens of Cade's head injury and his potential unreliability, the film is unsettling and disturbing. The comments on sports culture in relation to fans, child athletes, and their parents, are as worrisome as they are valid, but unfortunately there simply isn't enough time to explore them all in a wholly satisfying manner. Still, at its core, the horror remains. The Him: Collector's Edition SteelBook 4K provides superior internal and external imagery for it's collectible packaging, and the UHD disc boasts impressive technical merits. For fans of the leads (particularly Wayans), the film, and SteelBook collectors, the Him: Collector's Edition SteelBook 4K comes highly recommended.
