If there are any war movie lovers on your holiday gift buying list and who also collect steelbooks, Lionsgate is offering a nicely packaged edition of their previous 4K release of Hacksaw Ridge. In terms of disc contents, this release duplicates the Hacksaw Ridge 4K release Lionsgate put out several years ago. For my thoughts on the packaging, see the supplements section below.

The on disc supplements are detailed in the above linked reviews, and this release also comes with a digital version. This steelbook features some nicely done packaging both in terms of the plastic slipcover, which is emblazoned with kind of a "reverse" version of the Red Cross symbol (i.e., the cross is clear but the surrounding frame is red) which frames an illustration of Andrew Garfield's face that is on the front cover of the actual steelbook. The color palette is appropriately khaki green, with the exception of a kind of cool (if disturbing) looking burst of flame (perhaps from a flamethrower being held by a soldier whose back is seen). The back cover shows the familiar scene of a medic aiding a fallen comrade, against a backdrop of almost ghostly GIs looking on. The inside really isn't that exciting, with a photo of Garfield again on the left panel that spills over (with not much to be seen) on the right panel.
Hacksaw Ridge is a viscerally involving war film that manages to satisfy both the larger scale epic aspects that often accompany such tales, but which never loses sight of its intimate human story. The technical presentations are excellent, and supplements well done, and for those who collect steelbooks, this offers a really nicely illustrated cover. Highly recommended.
