Gremlins 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman October 25, 2019
Warner Brothers and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for Director Joe Dante's classic 1984 Horror/Comedy film
'Gremlins.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below
for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Gremlins 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

The SteelBook is glossy and smooth. With its darker color tones it will show fingerprints. The front and rear panels are both a dark red color with lighter
spots in key illuminated areas. On the front, the film's title appears top-center in playful, almost neon pink colors. "Steven Spielberg Presents" text
appears above in darker and much smaller type. Below the title are three neon symbols, each with a cross-out line through them. One is a lightbulb,
one is a drop of water, one is a chicken leg. The suggestions here are to not expose the creatures to bright light, not to get them wet, and to never feed
them after midnight. At the bottom is Gizmo, looking playfully off to the side, casting a shadow directly in front of him. The rear panel is much
the same in terms of color. There is no text but it does depict the Gremlin Stripe wielding a chainsaw with a mischievous grin on its face. The spine
maintains the
same color scheme and features the film's title slightly off center towards the top. A Warmer Bothers shield appears at the bottom.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in
staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a gaggle of Gremlins wreaking havoc inside a bar. It's taken from one
of the more famous scenes in the film. Poor Kate is doing her best to survive, popping up on the bottom right-hand side. The image is red-tinted and
prominently features the Gremlin wearing the Santa hat hanging off a ceiling fan on the left. An unobtrusive billing block appears bottom-left.

Gremlins 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Controversy surrounds Gremlins on UHD, but its SteelBook is fairly attractive. It's subtle and red-dominant and does a fine job of conveying
the movie's basics. It's not as good as original poster art, though. Recommended.
