Mill Creek has released the 1988 Sigourney Weaver film 'Gorillas in the Mist' to Blu-ray. The film was previously released to Blu-ray by Universal in 2014. This release includes essentially identical video and audio presentations but loses the two supplements included on the Universal disc.

Much as was the case with the Blu-ray release of The Babe, Mill Creek's release of Universal's Gorillas in the Mist is essentially identical to the 2014 Universal release. Viewers paying super close attention may spot slight discrepancies as a result of the encode process -- slightly more compression artifacts, slightly less precise grain structure rendering -- but the images appear to be identical at their centers, clearly sourced from the exact same master. In that light, the review of the Universal disc satisfies requirements here.

Also, as with the video, the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack appears to be identical to the Universal disc. Please click here for a full review.

No extras are included. The Universal disc included a featurette and a trailer. This release does ship with Mill Creek's "retro VHS" slipcover.

Minus a couple of brief extras and microscopic fluctuations in the video transfers, the old Universal and this new Mill Creek disc appear to be identical. At time of publication the Universal disc is slightly cheaper but the retro VHS slipcover is, here, a nice touch. The movie is well worth watching and owning. Recommended.
