Imagine & Gimme Some Truth.
Universal Music Group is celebrating what would have been John Lennon's 78th birthday on October 9 with the release of Imagine and
tangentially related items in a number of formats. That includes a new "two fer" released in collaboration with Eagle Rock Entertainment that gathers
together two fascinating films featuring John and Yoko tied directly to Imagine. Those wanting more information on this title and its sibling
are encouraged to read our Imagine &
Gimme Some Truth Blu-ray review, which contains full coverage and more screenshots from each film included on the Blu-ray disc.

For my thoughts on both of the films included in this release, please see our

Gimme Some Truth: The Making of John Lennon's Imagine Album Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

While Gimme Some Truth arguably needlessly reuses some footage from Imagine, along with other footage that looks like alternate takes or unused snippets from that "music video", it's the
rehearsal and recording footage in this piece which should really capture the eye of devoted Lennon and/or Beatles fans. This is "up close and
personal" filmmaking, and it frankly shows John to be a bit of a pest at some times, but amazingly nurturing and sweet at others (his interaction with
what amounts to a vagrant fan who shows up at one point is really interesting stuff, even if it once again presents John being a bit crass in
some of his responses). Anyone who has dreamt about being a fly on the wall during a Beatles recording session may get at least a taste of what it
may have been like courtesy of some of the footage included in this piece, and I can't imagine a Lennon fan not being captivated by Gimme Some
Truth.
