Giallo Essentials Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman December 4, 2021Giallo of course means "yellow" in Italian, and any good Italian horror fan can tell you the genesis of the term vis a vis its use for this (sub?)genre of film. Arrow Video has long been curating a number of gialli, and they have aggregated six relatively recent releases in two new sets. Arrow is offering the sets with two different packaging options, an appropriately yellow one, and this red one. This review will describe the packaging while offering links to what is included in the packaging. I'm including a couple of pictures of the yellow edition (with different films) in this review for quick comparison purposes.

Giallo Essentials Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras
Supplements included on each disc are detailed in the above linked reviews. Of the two editions Arrow is releasing of this collection, this "red" version arguably offers the more striking cover art, with a victim's body lying underneath a spooky outstretched hand. Both editions offer die cut slip covers with a kind of "o ring" which reveals part but not all of the cover image.
Giallo Essentials Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation
The three films in this set may not be the best remembered gialli of all time, but they each have definite things to recommend them, and as tends to be the case with Arrow releases, technical merits are generally solid and the supplementary packages very enjoyable. Of the two editions Arrow is releasing of various gialli, fans of dramatic cover art may prefer this one. Recommended.
