Gabriel Iglesias: Aloha Fluffy Blu-ray Movie Review

Aloha means fluffy.

Fan-favorite Comedy Central stand-up Comedian Gabriel Iglesias, better known as "Fluffy," once again brings his act to Blu-ray, following up on his previous two high definition excursions, I'm Not Fat...I'm Fluffy and Hot and Fluffy. The extra-large entertainer proves yet again that no matter where he is or what his topic may be, he can find the humor in almost anything and hold an audience like only the best performers can.

Don't ask me, I just laugh here.

In Aloha Fluffy, Iglesias takes his routine to Hawaii -- where else -- where his fan base is nearly as wide as he. He delivers his routine with a well-versed local flavor, probably more well-versed than the non-native Hawaii tour guides he lambasts to open the show. Iglesias proves as amiable and animated as ever, working up a sweat as he brings down the house. Recorded at Honolulu's Hawaii Theater Center, Iglesias brings a charisma to the Aloha State and shows that, even thousands of miles away from home, good comedy knows no borders.

Gabriel Iglesias: Aloha Fluffy features a quality 1.78:1-framed high definition Blu-ray transfer. The HD video source material reveals nice, bright colors; Fluffy's red Hawaiian shirt looks great against the darkened backdrop. Details are sharp and accurate. Clothing textures and the sweat that accumulates on Iglesias' brow is very clear. The image does show some shimmering effects. Light blockiness may be seen off to the sides and in particular back up in the darker areas of the crowd. It's not a perfect image, but it should satisfy given the source and material.

Gabriel Iglesias: Aloha Fluffy features a satisfactory Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless soundtrack. It is a little muddled at the start. The combination of blaring music and crowd applause doesn't find a natural balance; the applause in particular spaces nicely but doesn't have a very real sonic texture to it. The music comes through with good low end presence and clarity. Both play with aggressive surround support. Iglesias' dialogue is smooth and even, with a very light, gentle microphone signature.

Gabriel Iglesias: Aloha Fluffy will satisfy fans of Iglesias' stand-up comedy style. The Hawaii location allows him to bring some unique flavor to his routine, and Iglesias shows he can be funny on any soil. Paramount's Blu-ray release of Aloha Fluffy features satisfying video and audio. A few supplements are included. Recommended to fans.
