Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
This one costs an arm, but probably not a leg.
Reviewed by Randy Miller III August 8, 2024
Released alongside the separate wide-release 4K and Blu-ray editions, Warner Bros. has also commissioned a 4K/Blu-ray Steelbook combo pack of George Miller's Furiosa: A Mad
Max Saga available at select retailers in-store and online, such as Wal-Mart and GRUV.com. While WB's 4K-only edition sports the exact same
top-tier A/V merits and solid bonus features found in this comparatively rarer and more expensive version, the addition of collectable packaging
certainly sweetens the pot a little. As usual: if Steelbooks are your thing and you can find this for a good price, go for it.

For a synopsis and critique of
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, please see my recent
4K review as well as Brian Orndorf's
theatrical coverage. Simply put, it's a solid effort for a prequel made almost
ten years
after the last installment.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 4K Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality

For my thoughts on both the UHD's 2160p/HDR (Dolby Vision compatible) and Blu-ray's 1080p/SDR transfers, please see my separate reviews of the 4K and Blu-ray editions. Needless to say, one's better than the other.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 4K Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality

On the other hand, both discs carry the same stellar Dolby Atmos mix, so please see my review of the 4K edition for full details. Simply put, this is an
outstanding effort that stands among the year's best-sounding discs.
Optional subtitles, including English (SDH), are included during the main feature and all extras listed below.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

This two-disc release ships in a Steelbook whose general appearance is similar to Best Buy's Fury Road 4K Steelbook from a few years back, with a large image of Immortan
Joe's symbol dominating the rust-colored front cover; this one isn't matte-finish or embossed, though, and thus feels a bit cheaper. The back cover
continues the muted color scheme with an image of War Boys in pursuit of... us, I guess, while the interior panel is a still image of Dementus
riding his "chariot" and flanked by two fellow horde members. Both discs sit on overlapping hubs on the right side.
As mentioned in my separate 4K and Blu-ray reviews, the on-disc bonus features are a little different on both formats and listed below in name only; for more
details, please see my linked 4K review.
DISC ONE (4K)
- Highway to Valhalla: In Pursuit of Furiosa (57:00)
- Darkest Angel: Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa (10:19)
- Motorbike Messiah: Chris Hemsworth as Dementus (10:02)
- Furiosa: Stowaway to Nowhere (11:13)
- Metal Beasts & Holy Motors (14:42)
DISC TWO (BLU-RAY)
- Highway to Valhalla: In Pursuit of Furiosa (57:00)
- Furiosa: Stowaway to Nowhere (11:13)
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

George Miller's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga may have underperformed at the box office earlier this year, but in many ways it's about as
impressive as fans could've hoped for under the circumstances. Initially planned to be shot alongside Fury Road but stuck in development hell
for several years due to contract and budget disputes, its long-delayed completion shows that Miller and company were able to pick up almost right
where they left off. Whether or not you saw this one in theaters, Furiosa is worth picking up on home video... and while the one-disc 4K edition will be good enough for
most A/V enthusiasts, this 4K/Blu-ray Steelbook is ideal for die-hard collectors and those who want both formats.
