'Frankenstein 4K' returns in this Walmart-exclusive Limited Edition SteelBook courtesy of Universal. The film that would make Boris Karloff a household name was one of the foundational pictures of the Universal Monsters series of films that included 'Dracula' (1931), 'The Wolf Man' (1941), 'The Invisible Man' (1933), 'The Mummy' (1932), 'The Bride of Frankenstein' (1935), and 'Phantom of the Opera' (1943), joins 1954's 'Creature From the Black Lagoon in the SteelBook series that features artwork from comics legend Alex Ross. All of the legacy special features are brought forward to this release. A Blu-ray is also included, as is a Digital Code. Please scroll down to the 'Special Features and Extras' section below for a discussion of this new steelbook.

Comic legend Alex Ross's beautiful black-and-white art of The Monster as portrayed by Boris Karloff, which fans first saw as part of his Universal Monsters series at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, graces the cover of this Walmart-exclusive steelbook. Centered on the front cover, The Monster holds a terrified Elizabeth as forks of lightning erupt in the sky behind him and angry villagers move in from the foreground. A burning windmill looms in the distance. The back cover merely showcases the title of the film over a greyscale field that is evocative of smoke or fog. Universal's logo is positioned in the bottom left corner. Opening the SteelBook, the left side is dominated by an iconic close-up of Karloff. Both discs are housed on the right side, with each disc secured on its own offset, stacked hub. Under the discs is a still of Frankenstein and Fritz laboring in the lab while the inert Monster lies motionless under a sheet. SteelBook collectors will be delighted to know that the matte finish does a splendid job of resisting fingerprints, as is typically the case. Please follow this link for a look at the on-disc material.
As films go, Frankenstein (1931) is a film that I would argue belongs in the collection of every film lover whether they're particularly enamored with horror films or not. The 4K presentation the film received is splendid and the SteelBook featuring Alex Ross's gorgeous artwork is difficult to resist. Collectors who have already added the Creature From the Black Lagoon 4K Limited Edition SteelBook to their libraries won't want to miss this one either, and one can hope more entrants to the series of Alex Ross SteelBook releases will be on their way soon. Highly Recommended.
