The title character leads viewers through an accidental travelogue of U.S. social history from the early 1960s through the present in this revisionist fable. Vietnam, desegregation, Watergate, and more are presented from the perspective of loveably slow-witted Forrest Gump as he finds himself embroiled in situations he can't quite comprehend.

Paramount and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for Director Robert Zemeckis' 1994's multi-Oscar-winning film 'Forrest Gump.' This two-disc set includes the same content as found on the 25th anniversary wide release. That package is highlighted by a new Blu-ray transfer. See below for a few words on this SteelBook's look and feel.

The SteelBook's front cover features one of the film's most iconic symbols: Forrest is sitting on a bus stop bench where he remains for the film's
"present day" duration and shares his life stories with several strangers who cross his path. He is dressed in an off-white suit and his suitcase full of
memories is situated on the ground to his left. The image is a rearward shot with the bench's and the character's back to the camera. Forrest is looking
over his left shoulder at a feather falling from the sky, destined to land on his shoe. Rather than the busy real-world background that appears around
him in the movie, the SteelBook simply offers a steady sky blue background coloring. The film's title appears situated at the top in yellow lettering.
Tom Hanks'
name appears in white in smaller type above. The rear side carries over the same blue background. A box of chocolates, with a selection of seemingly
delicious
varieties, appears center at an angle. An unfurled yellow ribbon spreads across the length. A copyright notice and a model number appear in fine print
at the
bottom. The spine retains the same blue coloring. The film's title, here in white rather than yellow, appears center. A Paramount logo can be found at
the top and a Blu-ray logo at the bottom.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two Blu-ray discs, one feature film+extras, one additional supplements,
are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is simply a reflective, silvery blank slate. One of the film's more famous vistas
-- Forrest addressing a crowd of war protestors on the National Mall -- might have made for an interesting interior shot.

Forrest Gump's 25th anniversary SteelBook release is handsome. Simple, but handsome. There's a missed opportunity for something more for the inner print, which is essentially a blank silver slate, but the front and rear covers are attractive. The new 1080p transfer is not without flaw but is very good in the aggregate. The Atmos track carries over from the UHD disc and the extras are identical to those found in previous issues. Highly recommended.
