The third chapter arrives.
Reviewed by Neil Lumbard September 19, 2022
Food Wars: The Third Plate continues the epic food cuisine journeys. The series features animation by production studio J.C. Staff
(Aria the Scarlet Ammo, A Certain Magical Index). Produced by Noriko Dohi (Little Busters! Refrain), Reiko
Oyama (Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign), Sôji Miyagi (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?), and
Terushige Yoshie (Non Non Biyori Nonstop). The new season of the series takes audiences on a new trip of culinary delights. Created
by Shun Saeki (who handled the art) and Yūto Tsukuda (who wrote the story), Food Wars: The Third Plate delivers more
fun for fans of the anime franchise.
Sōma Yukihira (Yoshitsugu Matsuoka) continues to work to hone his abilities as an expert chef. The journey isn’t easy and there are
constantly new challenges along the way to becoming the master. Determined to find his voice as a chef, Soma finds himself working with the
Yukihira fine dining eatery. The process has led to Soma now being involved with the Totsuki Fine Dining Academy. The school is a prestigious and
acclaimed school only aimed at students determined to become expert chefs and the field is rigorously competitive.
Only the best of the best ever get a chance to be a student at Totsuki. Soma finds himself alongside other talented chefs and he continually
seeks new recipes to change cooking forever. Joined by Erina Nakiri (Hisako Kanemoto) and Megumi Tadokoro (Minami Takahashi), the adventure
continues. This year Soma has to face the challenge of the Lunar Fest and make his mark as a member of the elite chef group known as
“The Ten” (comprised of the 10 most prestigious chefs at the school). Can Soma become a cooking master?
The characters are one of the central elements of the production. The series relies heavily upon the cast of characters and their respective roles
in the saga. The series is character-focused and the central cast propels the story forward. The series lead is charming and manages to make a
solid impression as an enjoyable protagonist for the saga. Soma has big ambitions and wants to make a name for himself as one of the best chefs
in the world.

Game on.
The animation is excellent and one of the best components of the production. The art style is exquisite. Under the work of art director Kōichirō
Bizen (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, Date A Live III), the animation soars. The character designs by Tomoyuki Shitaya
(Sagrada Reset, Hatsukoi Limited) make a solid and favorable impression. The designs feel distinct for the respective
roles on the series. The art style is commendable and does a solid job of highlighting the school and the culinary elements.
The cinematography by Yutaka Kurosawa (Dream Eater Merry, Minami Kamakura High School Girls Cycling Club) is
first-rate and shines with solid color and a bright aesthetic. The series showcases a charming environment for the culinary tales and the journey of
the characters – the cinematographer certainly understands the material and handles it exceptionally well.
Featuring a score composed by Tatsuya Katō (Love Live! Sunshine!!, Celestial Method), Food Wars: The
Third Plate has a charming score that is well suited to the material. The music is a fine backdrop to the production and fits the foodie vibes
of the series exceptionally well. Kato understands the series drive for good music to accompany the beautiful anime food.
Written by Shogo Yasukawa (Alderamin on the Sky, Hyperdimension Neptunia), Food Wars: The Third
Plate finds the series exploring a new chapter in the saga. The season brings more adventurous and enticing cuisine to fans of the program.
Viewers enamored with food programs and anime series showcasing a vibrant array of culinary delights will find the story adequate for exploring
these components. A solid effort by Yasukawa.
Directed by Yoshitomo Yonetani (Ghastly Prince Enma Burning Up, Vatican Miracle Examiner), Food
Wars: The Third Plate is another worthwhile season of the series and one that fans will want to see. Exploring a new arena for the third
season, the journey of these chefs is one that continues to bring viewers something full of excitement. Fans of the program will want to check out
