Flash Gordon Blu-ray Movie Review
SteelBook! Ahhh ahhhhh!!!!
Reviewed by Martin Liebman June 5, 2020
Universal and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for 1980's cheesy 'Flash Gordon.' The disc and digital content is
identical to that found in the original 2010 Blu-ray release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below
for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Flash Gordon Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

Red! Ahhh ahhhh!!! The smooth, glossy, fingerprint attracting exterior front and rear panels are dominantly a metallic red coloring. The film's title
appears top
center in familiar script, yellow (with some orange too), with the "Flash Gordon" symbol in the middle. The hero appears center, swinging from a rope in
a stylized appearance. He appears in front of a large yellow sun with yellow stars dotting the permitter. The rear panel is similar in layout, featuring
Ming in a
center circle, in full costume, looking forward, and pointing towards the viewer. A studio logo and legalese appear bottom left and a model number may
be seen bottom right. The spine carries over the same red color with the film's title, as it is on the front (but smaller), appearing center. A small
Universal logo in white can be seen at the bottom.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in
staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a spread of beautiful women, including Dale Arden, in regal attire.

Flash Gordon Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Flash Gordon's SteelBook is pretty flashy. It's loud, it's fun, it's red and yellow. But inside is the same disc the studio released back in 2010.
The film is getting a 4K overhaul release from Arrow in a few months. There's a boxed set too but no scheduled SteelBook for that one, so if anyone wants to be
crazy, buy that new set and drop the UHD disc into this SteelBook. Or just enjoy the decent-enough BD. Recommended.
