Overview

Five Nights at Freddy's 4K (2023)

Struggling to take care of his ten-year-old sister Abby on his own, the generally undependable Mike is low on options when he lands this new job to pay the bills and bring her along to the gig. Mike quickly realizes, however, that the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be as kickback as he was thinking after he makes a disturbing discovery that the pizza place’s four horrifying animatronic mascots all apparently come alive, moving about on their own as they hunt down and attempt to kill anyone that is still at Freddy’s after midnight.

Five Nights at Freddy's 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Justin Dekker December 3, 2025

Based on the popular video game franchise, the 2023 film 'Five Nights at Freddy's' returns to 4K UHD disc in this wider re-issue of the former Walmart-exclusive Limited Edition SteelBook courtesy of Universal. This re-released Limited Edition SteelBook is timed to coincide with the theatrical release of the second film in the franchise, 'Five Nights at Freddy's 2'. Lead by a cast featuring Josh Hutcherson ('RV, 'The Hunger Games' franchise), Mathew Lillard (from countless live-action and animated 'Scooby-Doo' films, 'Thir13en Ghosts'), and Mary Stuart Masterson ('Some Kind of Wonderful', 'Bad Girls'), the first film follows the down-on-his- luck and troubled Mike (Hutcherson) as he starts a new job as an overnight security guard at the long- abandoned Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria where things are definitely not what they seem. For a discussion of this new SteelBook, please scroll down to the "Special Features and Extras" section. A Blu-ray disc and a Digital Code redeemable through Movies Anywhere are also included.

The new wider re-release of the former Walmart-exclusive SteelBook is virtually identical to that original release. Once again, the SteelBook captures a much friendlier, but still vaguely menacing Freddy, Foxy, Bonny, and Chica on the top half of the cover, with the logo set slightly below center. What one must assume to be blood drips from underneath the logo to the bottom of the image. The colors are nicely saturated, but are appropriately aged. The reverse image is that of the vicious Mr. Cupcake who sits in a pool of blood which again drips down to the bottom of the cover. The brick red spine sports the film's title in faded yellow block letters. The colors of the exterior have a metallic quality to them, and the characters, title, blood, and checkerboard elements feature a light spot-gloss. There are no embossed or debossed elements. The matte-finished background areas should hide fingerprints associated with normal handling well.

Opening the SteelBook, the Digital Code is again held under the two clips on the left side. On the right side, the 4K UHD disc and the Blu-ray disc, each containing the feature film and bonus material, are stagger-stacked, each on its own hub, with the 4K UHD disc on top. Removing the discs and the code reveals a two-panel image that is the same as that of the previous SteelBook, that of the collection of children's drawings seen in the film. Considering the storyline, it is a very appropriate choice.

Five Nights at Freddy's 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.0 of 5

Five Nights at Freddy's was highlighted by an amazing set, fantastic iterations of Freddy and his crew, and a proven cast consisting of Josh Hutcherson, Mathew Lillard, and Mary Stuart Masterson. Though not as frightening as it could or should have been, franchise fans will no doubt be excited to see the video game brought to life in such a fully realized manner. The previous Walmart-exclusive SteelBook seems to be out-of-print now, and commands a bit more money than seems reasonable. For fans of the the game or the film who missed out on the SteelBook release the first time around, the new Five Nights at Freddy's 4K Limited Edition SteelBook comes recommended.
