Finding Dory 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman September 21, 2019

Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for the 2016 Pixar fan favorite digitally animated film 'Finding Dory.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

It's not a surprise to find that Finding Nemo's glossy and smooth SteelBook is blue. The front cover has that underwater blue shading to it. Found on the lower half, center, is the red octopus Hank, holding a coffee pot inside of which is the film's title character, the regal blue tang Dory. The film's title in familiar white flowing letters appears top center and is debossed (the word "Dory" only). "Disney Pixar" text accompanies. The rear side retains the same blue color but in the center is an image of the California sea lion, Gerald, holding a green bucket in his mouth. The spine is a standout yellow color, a wonderful contrast to the surrounding blue. The film's title appears center, just as it does on the front. An UltraHD logo appears at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code floats; there are no tabs. The three discs, one UHD and two Blu-ray discs, are situated on both the left and the right, the former on its own tab and the latter in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features Dory on the left and Hank on the right, the latter gazing towards the former, who is in a tank. Hank's slimy tentacles are sprawled about, one of which points at the captive Dory.

Finding Dory 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

The offsetting spine color really makes this SteelBook pop. The rear artwork, as with all of these September 2019 Disney/Pixar SteelBooks, is uninspired, but the rest of it is quite nice. The on-disc content is of a good quality. Highly recommended.
